Apparently the search is a grid search in that rural area. I hope they're looking for evidence or something and she is still alive and well, but a grid search doesn't fill me with confidence.

I don't know how homicide detectives do it. My stomach is in knots just thinking about a little girl the same age as mine.
God I hope she's ok. I'm so glad it's not her dad, but at the same time, that also makes it seem really grim. How do people do stuff to little kids?

As the father of a 5 year old girl, this is very difficult to deal with.

I have a 5 year old boy. I totally feel ya on this one. I looked up all sorts of home surveillance cameras last night. Amazing how these types of things spook a parent.

My hope is that the rural search is for evidence to the mother's murder (a weapon thrown from a vehicle, for example), and that the girl is still safe somewhere.
Either way, I just can't handle these cases involving kids.

Definitely doesn't sound good. :-(
At this point, I would think that the best chance for her to be found safe would have been if it was the father. And a rural search just brings back memories of the past two cases, neither of which ended well.
Hopefully people are right and they are just searching for a weapon or something and they are keeping other details confidential.

This is my hope too.
New boyfriend, maybe an unplanned rage killing like a one punch knockout, then panicked, stuffed the body in the closet, child wasnt home at the time but got dropped off later, and he took her somewhere saying the mother was out. I dunno. Not much makes sense in a case like this with a mother killed in her own home and you g child missing.

They are searching a grassy field and ditches, also using metal detectors, based on information received from someone arrested, who is not the dad. This does not seem to be leading to the ending everyone is hoping for.
EDIT: I hope Stang's optimistic speculation turns out correct. I don't share the optimism however.

Police holding a news conference at 230.
####. Nancy Hixt just updated before Global ended their noon show. She mentioned a tarp being laid and suddenly sounded very choked up. ^#(#@%)&

We all, and her family all have one suspect in mind, not that I want to mention it. But that’s for the police to do their work and find out and I know that justice will be served.

Don't want to derail this thread into a discussion about first responders, but I will say that statistically the ones involved in this case already have a higher likelihood of having long term negative impacts to their lives. The bad and ugly will have many victims, many unseen. Gut wrenching.

The father is not the guy in custody according to CBC.
