Some Americans will move out of the USA rather than stay if George Bush is re-elected, including Robert Redford.

Overreaction or appropriate? Did you pull up stakes when Trudeau was re-elected?

To each their own. Everyone has their preferences. Some Canadians prefer the U.S. to Canada as well. Of course, the U.S. has areas with better weather, so that is a big part of it.

I personally prefer the US. But then I have always wanted to live there since I was little. Would I move based on polotics. Probably not. But then, anything is possible.

Well Chretian getting re-elected was definately part of my reasoning when i decided to take up residence in the US. I dont blame people at all for leaving a country that has a leader they despise.....unfortunately in certain countries you do not have that option at all.

If he did, that doesnt seem to be the case anymore. He had a lecture at my school last week, and he seemed to be firmly intrenched in the US.

I think you are thinking of Johnny Depp, Tranny. He moved to France after the last election and has been critical of Bush on a few occassions.

I don't think Depp moved to France because GWB won. I think it had more to do with being tired of the Hollywood lifestyle and French girlfriend (now wife) pregnant with his child.

I recall Depp once saying he doesnt want his child growing up in the American educuational system. Now for somebody with Depp's wallet, ensuring his kid gets a good education wouldnt be a problem here, but for most people who cant afford to send their kids to private school, he'd be absolutely right.

Perhaps he just didnt want his kid to grow up with a bunch of snooty preppies ( although if you want to avoid snooty, there are probably better places than France )

Funny, an opening band from San Fran for a concert I went to recently said exactly the same thing, they would move up to Canada if Bush won.

I have nothing against the US but I cant see myself ever moving there even if I did get offered a job that payed what no other company in Canada could. I guess I'm just too proud to be Canadian to leave here. I dont really care about poltics so I dont care who gets to be Prime Minister.

I think Eddie Vedder said he would move up there last time, which he didn't. Saying things like that is pretty lame, in my opinion, because it shows that you just give up. If you really care, then make a change in your own country. You're giving in to the people that say "if you don't like it, get out." Choosing to live as an expatriate is something that I can respect, but doing it as a reaction to a political loss is poor and shows you don't respect the opinions of other Americans.

Kind of cowardly if you ask me....and I'm a big Redford fan.

When things don't go your way you fight harder, not pull up stakes and hightail it to Canada......although it's certainly a great place to live and I can see the appeal for a guy like Redford who tends to appreciate the same things in life that I do. But that's not really the point is it?

Hmmm, interesting.
Off topic, I have a buddy who is half ass certain he ran into Kurt Cobain in Vancouver (after his controversial suicide). Dude looked and sounded like the guys clone I guess.
What made the story kind of interesting and weird was the fact that my buddy was hanging out at Wreck beach with his girlfriend on a early weekday morning...hardly anyone around. Out of the blue, Kurt

comes out of nowhere, sits down a few feet away. After their initial shock, a little small talk ensues, mostly about how much Kurt loves weed. Then he just up and walks away. Apparently he didnt seem like a bum or anything, just a lost soul. Kind of a weird moment for them I guess.
Might of been more believable if he talked about how much he loved injecting himself. Maybe he cleaned up after fooling the world.
