Lives In Fear Of Labelling
|
Obama has not helped the situation one bit. Especially by coming out and vilifying law enforcement, in the wake of a officer involved shootings, making statements prior to knowing facts and perpetuating the belief that police are targeting and killing "innocent" men.

I hope there's a period of calm after this, as it's the type of thing that could cascade quickly and culminate in open gun battles in the streets.

They HAVE killed innocent men. Whether or not the latest one was innocent or not remains to be seen but he absolutely should be vilifying the law enforcement officers who take lives of innocent men especially when those innocent men happen to be black.
And he will come out and vilify this act of violence as he should as well.

On at least one occasion, Obama was correct in vilifying the officer. In the video, it is evident that the officer murdered the man.
How do you expect him to help the situation in lieu of congressional support?

Surely some are innocent but whatever, it's likely that nothing will change once pretty boy is in office. It will then become apparent that Obama's statements made hardly any difference, nor will those of pretty boy, if that's what you're hinting at. They're pretty much obligated to make statements.
5 now confirmed dead.

Just to be clear the shooter is still at large in a parkade and still actively shooting. There are negotiators on scene trying to resolve the situation.

Don't buy the bombs planted all over Dallas story from the suspect. He likely only sees the police as his enemy and doesn't want to kill anyone he perceives as innocent which is why the bomb story wouldn't make sense IMO.

5 officers dead is very saddening. The guy they have been trading gunfire with has been holed up for a long time. I would assume he has body armour which is another element of the gun culture I don't understand. Can you purchase body armour in Canada? Aside from entering into a gunfight, what purpose does body armour serve? If I remember correctly, the Orlando shooter tried to purchase armour.

I doubt the cops buy it either but they still have to do their do diligence and treat it seriously. desperate people will say a lot of things just before they are about to die.
It's reported the shooter has an AR-15 with a large mag, Dems will be all over this with Trump and his rep buddy's stuck holding their hogs.

One of my old kids wore body armour 24/7 which was a good idea as both his girlfriend and best friend were shot and he was ambushed and shot 11 times, but yes body armours legal up here.

Not everywhere, BC is one province where you can own it but unless things have changed most provinces its prohibitive.
Shot 11 times?

Pretty professional looking operation, only one civilian hit. Suffice to say that the perpetrators have had a lot of gun training. That you can openly carry an AR-15 only makes it easier to pull something like this off. Horrible tragedy, will never understand why the country is so angry.

I disagree with the sentiments of some I've seen online getting angry at police for showing the guy as a suspect who as it turned out had nothing to do with it. If people are getting shot with rifles or whatever and you're carrying one, you're probably going to get named as a suspect. Its not some outlandish claim to slander a guy.

Seems to correlate with the increase usage of the internet and social media. For the record I am for some kind of gun control in the US but I don't think it's the only factor and it's much more complicated than put in a gun control policy and all will be fixed. I think the attention one gets from social media ( actually media in general) and misdiagnosed psychiatric drugs are bigger contributors to the increase in these mass killings than guns.

We must know different Americans.
I don't know of any who "deify" law enforcement.
Firefighters, maybe.
Military, yes, particularly in Texas.
But law enforcement? No. Not at all.

I understand the frustration, as much as I can, having never experienced what black citizens in the US do, but how can they not know that escalating into something like this, is only going to make everything so much worse. It's horrifying.
