Reddit is probably about 50/50 "this is awful" and "they deserved it."
It's just completely broken.
I'm really not sure what the solution is at this point.

Open carry is probably legal.

Y'all need to tune into the mass shooting thread more often and get familiar. Open carry is permitted in over half of states. There is nothing remotely WTF about the image, from a law perspective.

Something so bizarre about a parent walking around with a toddler on her shoulders beside some random guy in camo gear carrying an assault rifle. WFT.

You can open carry a gun like that legally?

Wait a minute...
So they're labeling this guy as a suspect yet...hes in the crowd when the shots were fired. Look at the far left.

How could you raise a family in an environment where something like this is legal?

I mean, why?
I get, oh, it's in the Constitution, but why the heck is it necessary for someone to need to carry an automatic weapon down public streets?
Is America such a scary place that people are afraid that they'll be attacked in the streets? Or is it just a form of macho bragging? I wouldn't feel safe at all living anywhere where this is legal. Imagine going through packed environments, like the mall. I'd be so paranoid.
Come on, seriously.

Several unconfirmed reports of a bomb being planted in downtown Dallas and that a fourth officer has died. It's Twitter though...

Yeah I mean that's the debate in the mass shooting thread, I guess. It's just apparently in this thread people are unaware that open carry is a thing. Whether or not it's a thing that needs to exist doesn't much matter now, but it's a simple explanation as to why there is nothing bizarre about a dude with a gun on the street.

The suspects brother is on CBS now saying his brother is not a suspect. Said he turned in his gun to law enforcement. Wasn't loaded.

Never seen it myself and I have spent the last 25 years in 2 very pro gun states. It isn't common to see this sort of thing.

There's literally nothing to report him for. Open carry is legal. If you call the police on this guy, the police tell you that he's allowed to carry in public. They aren't even going to show up.
Secondly, an interesting comment from a local reporter on twitter. I've got no idea how to embed a tweet here, but anyway.

Something people should understand nationally -- BLM & Dallas PD have respect for each other. DPD was protecting marchers. Snipers did this.
