I don't agree, actually - Tkachuk hasn't been all that great out here. His skating is not a fantastic asset. It's looked sort of clunky in my mind. His mechanics aren't great -- his hands are sometimes out of place.

If i set an Over/Under for NHL games played by Jankowski at 12, do you take the Over or Under?

He'd get 12 just from injuries. Over/Under 50 is probably a fairer bet.

Tuulola is flying out there! So is Tkachuk, now that he's warmed up.

I'll have more in-depth notes coming soon, but right now, my Top 5 forwards list at this camp is:

1. Jankowski
2. Tuulola
3. Tkachuk
4. Carroll
5. Phillips

As awesome as it is that Jankowski is standing out, I think we need to keep in mind that this is his 5th development camp and he's significantly older/more mature than most of the other prospects.

I want him to succeed as much as anyone, but do keep in mind that he SHOULD be dominating on this kind of a stage. Here's hoping he can continue to do so in main camp.

Speaking of Tuulola, what are the chances he comes over? I saw he was taken by Everett in the import draft.

I must have missed this when he was drafted but Jankowski has some great family history with hockey.

Father: Len Jankowski
Grandfather: Lou Jankowski
Brother: David Jankowski
Uncle: Ryan Jankowski
Great uncle: Red Kelly
Cousin: Joshua Slegers
Distant relative: Rob Blake

Tuulola may now be my favourite prospect at the moment.

A Tkachuk - Jankowski - Tuulola line would be a treat.

So you're saying we've found our David Jones replacement?

Without knowing much about Tuulola's situation in Finland, it seems to me that playing junior in North America would be far better than fighting for ice time against veteran grinders in his home country, assuming he's developed enough to seriously play for a spot in the men's team.

In Finland he would learn a lot about team game and mature quickly in that sense but in junior he'd get a guaranteed chance to develop his offensive skills. If he has offense, he'll get the ice time.

Doesn't seem like the Fins are doing to bad in the offensive development area haha

After the import draft I believe he said that he would be open to reporting to Everett if thats where the Flames thought it would be best for him to go. I wouldn't doubt that he has a pretty strong chance of playing in the WHL this season.

Thoughts from the afternoon practice:

- Eetu Tuulola has a really really good shot, great positioning in the slot. Had the guts to try a spinorama. Very exciting prospect, most impressive other than Janko today.

- Tkachuk is good with deflections, good hand-eye, good hands. Great shot, too. Skating still an area to improve. Had issues with puck control. Also had the guts to try a spinorama, and it actually worked! Good passer, set up Kravchenko on a perfect one-timer.

- Parsons was good down low, but was consistently beat up high on the glove side, needs to work on that.

- Fox was consistently apt on the defense, managing skilled forwards on the 1-on-1’s with ease.

- Kenney Morrison occasionally went a little out of position on his D coverage a la Andersson, but managed to recover nicely, unlike Rasmus. Good with his stick. One of the best, most NHL-ready looking defensemen on the ice today, very polished.

- Foo made the goalies look like a foo sometimes. Really good at opening up the five-hole. A really intriguing walk-on. Really quick skating and shot.

- Healey managed Lindstrom off the puck well, but got schooled by Tuulola and Tkachuk. Didn't really stand out.

- Kravchenko has some hands! He made a good move against Kylington once. Has great hair, too. Has a decent shot, too, and can hammer a one-timer. Not the greatest passer, though.

- Rempal was off-and-on with his passes. When he was on, he was perfect, but off, he missed by far. Has OK hands for a defenseman, but he's a forward.

- Mattson has a good shot, not always accurate, though, and kept losing the 1-on-1’s, and showed frustration verbally and physically (slamming his stick against the boards). Managed to hammer a one-timer home top-corner on Schneider with a rolling puck, which made the crowd ooh and aah.

- Bowles had a couple of good moves that didn’t quite end in goals, but were crafty nonetheless. Good showing. Made a good pass over to Foo for a nice goal against Parsons. Has a good shot. Inconsistent passer.

- Also standing out amongst the walk-ons: Dyukov, but not necessarily always in a good way. He was good with the puck on his stick, but he is not the greatest defender.

- Kylington has everything you already know: speedy, great skater. Still looks skinny as a pole out there, not sure if he's gotten any bigger.

- Nick Schneider had some trouble with rebounds, but was steady position- and skill-wise. Flashed the leather a couple of times. Was consistently beaten by Tkachuk.

- Sevigny was mostly unnoticeable. Not very fast, not a great shot. Made a couple of poor passes.

At youth level there's been some positive development, we'll see how much in a few years, but this is about where to play when you're getting close to 18. It depends on the player type. Nowadays I advocate moving to North America as soon as possible, whether it's NHL, AHL, college hockey or junior. It seems that it's often better to get the move out of the way early unless you plan to spend several years in Europe.

I wasn't there today but I asked my dad about Andersson and he disagreed with the assessment that he looks out of shape. He slotted him as the top D on the ice. Obviously I appreciate the updates from everyone but I did want to share that there is at least one different opinion out there.

Andersson was certainly not the best defenseman on the ice, he looked really bad out there.
