I've been critical of Jooris but would definitely have him back on a 2 way

Can't hurt signing him on a 2 way. What would be funny is if he develops really nicely in Stockton. Anything is possible I guess. Depth is good anyways, and though I, like most people here, am not very high on Vey, he at least has a lot of NHL experience.

I remember a lot of posters wanting him in the prospective Iginla deal a few years back. No harm in giving him a shot, at worst he's just a warm body in Stockton. I like to give guys like him a shot; still relatively young with nothing to lose. Plus we have plenty of opportunity for him to make the squad if he outperforms the competition.

Vey has the stuff to be a good player, hopefully he has a chance to put away the family issue and bury his head into hockey. Best of luck to the guy.

If Vey makes the Flames we have a serious depth problem on the 4th line. If this wasn't a 2 way I would be cringing at his add...umm subtraction signing considering Treliving just let same age, size Agostino walk. Whatever it is a new start just don't anoint him to the Flames 4th line.

When 5v5, Vey produced only four goals and 14 points, while being a negative possession player and bad at faceoffs. Vey ranked among the worst Canucks forwards in most percentage based statistics, including Corsi%, Fenwick%, Scoring Chance%, Shots For% and Goals For%. The only forward to consistently rank lower than Vey in these statistics was Derek Dorsett, a perennial fourth-liner whose advanced stats are compensated by his "intangibles".

Seems like an odd concern.
If he made the 4th line, it would be because he's a better option, and he'd displace the person who then wouldn't make the 4th line.
Regardless, the person on the outs is in Stockton.
How is that a problem (were it to happen)?

I'm a dogmatic adherent to the "Canuck purification principle" and prefer not adding anyone from that organization, especially someone so freshly mired in the stench, but so be it.

The interesting thing to me about this is that the Flames have their own analytics. Now this might just be a case of Gulutzan knowing Vey and convincing the Treliving that he will be bringing something worthwhile, analytics be damned... but I'd be very interested to learn what Vey looks like according to the numbers that the Flames are measuring.

Less cap hit than Raymond and no worse production. 2-way and more upside. Why complain.

Vey showed nothing last year to warrant this.
However, he did have some pretty substantive personal issues, so I think that is reason enough to give him another chance. Plus, Gulutzan knows him, so he obviously has some insight on the matter.
Meh for now.

Why are people acting like this is a multi million dollar, multi year contract. This is a low risk depth signing that could have some up side. Geez tough crowd.

He didn't earn a 1 year 2 way contract? What else was he supposed to sign? Give the kid a break, especially after the year he had to deal with. I'm sure hockey had a back seat in the circumstances he was faced with.

Which is what I said also.

I agree with this. That being said, Vey is a plug with a chance. Sometimes that's all they need though.

I haven't followed Linden's career much since he left the WHL, but I did watch a lot of him when he played for the Tigers.
Vey was the ultimate complimentary player. When he won the WHL scoring title, he played on a line with Hunter Shinkaruk and Emerson Etem, who did most of the work along the boards to get him the puck. The thing that made him such a gaudy scorer in junior was his touch around the net. If he got the puck on his stick within 6 feet of the goal, it was going in, whether he buried it or passed it through some skates/over a stick for a tap-in. He was also a pretty good skater.
On the other hand, he doesn't really go get the puck. Pretty soft for a reasonably sized guy.
He needs to play with skilled players who can play the grindy game to get the puck around the net. If he were to play in the NHL for the Flames a year or two down the road, he'd look great playing with Bennett and Tkachuk or players of that ilk.
As an aside, he'd probably score 20 goals if Hartley was still coaching the team to feed stretch passes up the middle 63 times a game so he could score on breakaways.

Sooooooo if Agostino would have stayed and made the team, the depth "problem" wouldn't have existed? Because you randomly and irrationally believe Agostino is better?
I'm not sure I follow your logic here. What about Jankowski, or any other prospect?
Vey played several games for the Canucks and has NHL experience. He's still a developing player. It's not like he's 40 years old and the Flames are just hammering the streets looking for somebody to slap gear on and fill line 4.
