I look forward to his productive seasons in the future with San Jose and/or Anaheim.

I'm not really sure how this affects their cap though. SNET alludes to a 3.575 AAV, with only a 0.925 cap hit, but I'm pretty sure some of those bonuses count towards the cap as well...

If I'm not mistaken, they shouldn't count against the cap in the current season, but if he earns the bonuses in a season and that ends up putting the Jets over the cap, the overage will be applied to the following season.

Bonuses count towards the cap as long as they are still achievable.

However, a team can exceed the cap by 7.5% because of potential performance bonuses during the regular season. This is called a bonus cushion.

If by the end of the season, the team exceeds the cap due to performance bonuses being paid out, they are charged a bonus overage for that same amount towards the following season's salary cap.

I agree with you. I think he is going to be way better than Matthews but the leafs need that center

What the structure will be for Tkachuk, since he hasn't been signed yet.

As the 6th overall pick, it will probably be similar to Monahan's ELC: Maximum NHL salary with maximum signing bonus ($925,000 with $92,500 of that as signing bonus); maximum "A" level bonuses ($850,000); and no "B" level bonuses. There could be some "B" bonuses, but not likely the maximum.

I always find it interesting when a player signs a deal like Laine's. $1.8 million in "B" bonuses is just $200,000 off the maximum. Since those level of bonuses are nearly impossible to achieve (they require winning one of the major league awards -- and the Calder doesn't count -- or finishing top 10 in league-wide scoring), I'm always curious how they decided to go just a little below the maximum like that.

Very excited to see him play with the likes of Ehlers, Connor, and Scheifele for a long time. Laine was quoted as giving his signing bonus to his parents. Nice kid.

The bonus structure as they all get the max 925k and then laine can get up to 2.65 mill in bonus

Spoiled organization prospect-wise. Team better take advantage and actually go somewhere with him, instead of hanging around in mediocrity like it has since Atlanta days.

I mean it's taken Washington 10 years with Ovechkin to actually put together a contending caliber team around him.

Hardly contenders when you're ousted by the 8th seed in the 1st round though.
