				 2017 NHL Draft

			Goodbye Buffalo. Hello Chicago.
Maybe it's too soon for some, but never too early to look ahead to the next wave. Thought I'd kick off 2017 NHL Draft talk (if no one else has).
2017 NHL Draft Rankings: The Next Ones Preliminary Edition
 The Early Fab Five

		| Nolan Patrick leads the way as a potential franchise centreman. Sublime puckmoving blueliner Timothy Liljegren is nipping at his heels. Kailor Yamamoto is somewhat undersized, but compensates with dynamic offensive skills, impressive instincts, and game-changing ability. Gabriel Vilardi is another stud centre with immense potential. Nico Hischier will make a push to be the highest Swiss player drafted ever. |

RIP Nolan Patrick's career once going to Edmonton.
Who are we likely to take at #30 #31?

How long until we see an Oilers Patrick jersey? Honest question.

I see the Flames being in a lottery spot. We were close this year but had some good streaks. Winnipeg and Edmonton got better, St. Louis and LA got worse.

I tend to be pessimistic towards the Flames since they've only made the playoffs once since 2009. But with such a big upgrade in goaltending, I don't think regression is very likely.

If I'm not mistaken, the 2017 draft will have more WHL players at the top end. I'm looking forward to that, because that makes watching the Hitmen games more interesting. And it's always nice when the hometown guys do well.

Fun to look back at the 2016 NHL draft thread at the start to see how various players were touted 12 months ago. One thing for sure, the lists will look different come June 2017.

Well Elliot could still flop. He wasn't great in Ottawa and stingy systems like St. Louis' tend to inflate goalie stats. We essentially replaced Hudler with Brouwer and Russell with Jokipakka. We also lost Colborne and Jooris, assuming they are replaced them with prospects.

Hudler had chemistry with the top line during the playoff year, and Russell had Chemistry with Wideman that year. It's hard to say if Brouwer or Jokipakka can replace those guys all of a sudden. Look at Hamilton's slow start, so assuming the new faces will need to adjust. In fact, with a new coach, the whole team will need to adjust. A coach that doesn't have the best NHL record

No we're not? The Flames 2016-17 performance is directly tied to 2017 draft.

What you said dragged this thread off topic, ironically enough

Jokipakka plays a tighter, safer game in his D zone than Russell. Brouwer is the definition of 200-foot player & should he play with Johnny & Mony it should tighten up their line's defensive game a well.

Our D corps may not be as good as St Louis, but with a healthy Brodie it's really not that far behind. Sure, Elliott & Johnson could flop, but it couldn't possibly get any worse than Hiller/Ramo last season. Playing in front of sieve goaltending makes everyone shaky.

A draft lottery pick is very unlikely for the Flames in 2017.

Nikita Popugayev is someone who interests me a lot. As does the giant son of former NHLer Keith Primeau, Cayden. A 6'4" right shooting RW in Popugayev or a 6'7" athletic goalie in Primeau.
 Sign me up.
