Nico Rosberg has been handed a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision with Mercedes Formula 1 team-mate Lewis Hamilton on the last lap of the Austrian Grand Prix. Although found guilty by the stewards, the penalty is effectively meaningless as Rosberg retains his fourth place and just finishes four seconds ahead of Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo in fifth, rather than 14.
Absolutely it was Rosberg's fault, he tried to run him off the road, but I don't blame him one bit. Hamilton has been doing things like this to him for years now, without any disciplinary actions from either the team or the stewards, and I think he has had enough.
I've never been a fan of Hamilton. While he's arguably the fastest driver currently on the grid, he is, much like his hero Senna, a driver that will resort to running people off the track in order to establish dominance. I hope Rosberg is able to win the title this year and teach Hamilton a couple of lessons, something that is desperately needed.

I don't ususally post news as it is pretty easy to go read any of the 50 news sites that post F1 articles, but I thought Alonso's comments this week were really good. Talking about the Merc competition and crashes.
Part of it is also that I am totally against team orders and think that things like Ferrari at Austria in '02 are some of the most horrendous moments in F1 history.
Quote:
"It's something that will happen. They crashed in 2014 in Spa, and this has been going on and on, in Austin last year, in Suzuka, and some races, this year it's Austria, maybe it's Austin again in 10 races time. They've been three times World Champion [including 2016].
"Nothing will change, it's normal. They are close, they don't have battles with Red Bull, because they are 30 seconds ahead, they don't have battles with Ferrari, because they are one minute ahead, they have battles with their teammate.
"Sometimes they crash, in 50 races they crash three times, it's normal."
I finally caught up on the post race coverage this weekend. Toto Wolff was spitting mad at his drivers after the race. I can totally see Mercedes not letting them race each other anymore.
In a shocking twist the FIA are being selective in their application of track limits during qualifying. Hamilton goes off, no problem. Anyone else? Time deleted. As I say that they delete a Q3 time for him. Seems as though they were only enforcing it in certain corners which seems a bit weird but as long as they are consistent.
Good to see Alonso make Q3. Looks like Merc have a significant gap. And Red Bull may be right that they are the new best of the rest after the Mercs.

I met Nico Rosberg in 2006 during the Bahrain Grand Prix, his first ever race. Have been a fan of his ever since. He was a very friendly chap.
I saw Jenson Button last fall before the Japanese Grand Prix. He was jogging around the Imperial Palace, but I was so star struck, that he just jogged right by before I could get a word out.
I predict the following by the time the leaders get to (turn 2) farm curve;
1. Nico
2. Max
3. Lewis
I'd love some rain and Mercs deals with dirty air. Spice up the race a bit.
And to continue with the theme, I've never met any drivers, except my brief experience with the drivers in Montreal autograph session. However this morning at the coffee shop I was wearing my red bull shirt and the girl asked me if I was involved with the red bull f1 team. She was kinda cute so for a brief moment I hesitated and almost said yes but decided against it.

Note to self: Buy F1 team kit the next time you see it.

Ha Ha!! Your brain went through the calculations as fast an F1 drivers focus points! good call.
I can't stand Hamilton. Any race he doesn't win is a win for me. Even when he still podiums, but is not first. That stupid pissed off look on his face is so punchable. He looks like a kid that didn't get candy and is plotting the murder of the kid that did get candy.
Which race was it where he wouldn't let Rosberg through (Monte Carlo?). Some team mate he is. No surprise that Rosberg hates him too.

I totally agree, he has always been a complete punk. Perhaps Nico will one day rip those cute diamond earrings out and feed them to him.
Much as I don't like Lewis, mainly due to being a whiner as I've mentioned before, I think he may be the best driver on the grid. I just hate it that he pouts when things don't go his way, like earlier in the season.
Nico on the other hand seems rattled by it. He gets bullied by Lewis on he track.
