Pelle and Zaza... no clue what they were doing on those penalties.

Congrats to Germany. It's too bad one of these teams had to go out in the Quarters. Italy had a great tournament.

Muller has had a horrid tournament. If Germany wants to go any further he really needs to step up

I dont know if they played for penalties. They were just so tired. The penalties were from tired players.

In the modern game players run what? 10 km in 90 minutes. Theres nothing left.

Italy did better than I thought they would this tournament, I hate penalties so much.

That had to be the worst display of penalties for the first 5 shooters on each team that I have ever seen. Just horrific.

Conte should have pushed harder in extra time like Lippi did in 06. Germany had used 2 subs early and Italy had all three left. Should have just went for it.

Sucks because I do think Italy could have won it all if they just got past Germany today. Spain and then Germany 5 days apart was just too much in the end.

in any case, he needs to stop taking penalties. Missed 5 out of 8 this season.

I hate the late sub getting Zaza on for the shootout, his first touch was a penalty. Need to bring him on earlier to get a touch or two

I knew Darmian was missing, Man United players always miss big penalties. Hell two did tonight, Mueller would be perfect at Man U.

yeah I had a feeling that Darmian would miss too. Don't know why, but it really didn't surprise me.

personally I hate penalties so much because "my" team pretty much always loses. Probably used up all my luck in the 2008 CL final.

Same with Italy - was shocking when they actually won in the 2006 Final.

Losses in The 94 World Cup final (Brazil wins tournament), 98 World Cup Quarter Final (France wins tournament), and 2008 Euro Quarter Final (Spain wins tournament).

Heartbreaking major tournament losses all in my lifetime, on the other hand Germany should be pretty much guaranteed to win the tournament now.

all four Premier League players which were involved missed in the shootout (Schweinsteiger, Özil, Pelle, Darmian). Englands penalty misery is contagious ...

No argument from me on that.
Yes from my experience you're gassed legs are like jelly but you do what you can to still get inside the box. Defenders panic in extra time their legs are as tired as yours. Mistakes are made.

I'm not going to fault the shooters either after extra time is tough. Trust me your heart is beating so hard walking up to the spot you can feel it jumping through your jersey. The net looks smaller, and your legs feel tight.
I can recall sometimes it was just a blur until you see it hit the back of the net.
At this level with the crowd, the moment X's what I said by 1000 for pressure.

As fans we expect it to be automatic like a robot. Step up boom goal. And hope our Goalie guess the right way.
We forget about the nerves. Crazy shoot out. While I was watching this I was like this Baggio vs Beckham for historic misses.

I don't think Germany are a shoe in at all. Hummels is out, and this match absolutely drained them. France were gifted an amazingly easy schedule in terms of time off (3 Sunday games in a row...) and are fresh. As long as they take Iceland seriously, they should cruise tomorrow and be pretty fresh for Thursday.

I imagine it's also a bit intimidating to go against those two keepers. The shooters are trying to be extra precise knowing that their going against legends.

Was sure a horrid and entertaining display though.

Well...that was done the hard way.

Lots to like, I think ultimately the Germans were the better team but not by a whole lot. It was always going to be a close game.

That was the worst, weirdest and most stressful penalty shootout I've ever seen. So many misses, but none better than Zaza's!

Subbed on at the death to take a penalty, stupid runup like a twat and skies it. Beautiful.

Conte is never going to last in the Premier League, that guy is going to have a heart attack.

Anyways: Deutschland Uber Alles!

I really hate players that screw around on the runup, for some reason it drives me nuts. I dont know who the British commentator was today because he was more or less a massive idiot but at the end he made some good points about the shootout, pick a spot and just hit it with some power and your odds of scoring start going up dramatically.
