Jooris would be an easy player to plug in at the bottom line, sit out whenever you need to recharge the 120% battery and all for dirt cheap.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Brouwer
Bouma - Backlund - Frolik
Ferland - Bennett - Chiasson
Bollig - Stajan - xxxx
I believe Grant was last looking for some kind of more assured NHL position rather than working through the AHL again.
|
Can we not put Bollig on this team?
I like the rest, but... no Bollig pls. Stajan was very good on the wing last year.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Brouwer
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Ferland - Bennett - Chiasson
Stajan - Bouma - Shinkaruk

It's a shame they didn't introduce Elliott with them.

All I can get

Big winner today is Jon Gillies.
Three rivals on one year contracts.
He's the franchise's presumptive "Goalie Of The Future."
It's his opportunity to the seize the moment.

I was hoping they would give Ortio another shot as I thought he rebounded well after Ramo got hurt but I'm fine with bringing in Johnson too. I just hope a few years from now we're not wishing he would have been brought back.

Thanks that makes sense, I had no idea that happened. What an idiot. Yah likely contributed to the teams displeasure with him and the reason he currently sits without a contract. In what world does a goalie in Ortio's situation not take the teams suggestion to get some games in for a conditioning stint. Sounds like he's got some Svenitus, do not want around the team.

While I'm no expert on the CBA, aren't we consistently reminded that 1 way and 2 way deals mean nothing in regards to waiver eligibility? They only impact what the player is paid if sent down and if the deal impacts cap hit if they are sent down or not.
So I don't think that shafted him at all. And even if it did impact waiver eligibility, he's the one that would have wanted a 1 way deal, so it's on him to live up to the contract he negotiated.

I think we are going to regret letting Ortio go, the kid is still going to be a great goalie and we have jumped ship way too early and he got badly shafted last year imo.

I guess enduring the '3-headed monster' last season looks like an even bigger mistake, now. Oh well

Grant can't expect to to assured of anything in the NHL. All he can expect at this point is a reasonable shot at making an NHL team out of camp. Looking at our winger depth, and given how well he played for us in the AHL last year, I can't imagine there's a much better situation out there for him than the Flames. I hope Treliving signs him and I hope he forces the Flames to make a tough roster decision come October.

I doubt it. I don't see him getting a contract from an NHL team, at least not a one way contract. More than likely he goes back to Europe.
I would also add that if some posters, and mangement for that matter, say that Colborne got a bunch of his points when the season didn't matter, then the same can be said for Ortio.

That right side looks pretty bad. And bennetts line in particular isn't great. Man do we need a winger

Left side looks bad too...
If Tkachuk makes the team and Chiasson finds a bit of his potential:
Gaudreau/Monahan/Chiasson
Stajan/Backlund/Frolik
Tkachuk/Bennett/Brouwer
Ferland/Bouma/Hathaway
Much more balanced. Vets mixed with kids. Pretty good mix of size, speed and skill. Chance for that to be the best 4th line in the league.

In general our wings aren't great. It's not just the right side like often mentioned since Bouma and Ferland have yet to establish themselves as a top 6 or in Ferland's case, a top 9.
If anything our right side has better depth than the left.

Has everyone forgotten Pribyl? Might need a bit of time to adapt, but I think the expectation for him is a 3rd line spot at the very least.

Ortio could not be sent down without clearing waivers last season, but it had nothing to do with the contract he signed.

Yes the rules specifically state that each club must expose:
Quote:
iii) One goaltender who is under contract in 2017-18 or will be a restricted free agent at the expiration of his current contract immediately prior to 2017-18. If the club elects to make a restricted free agent goaltender available in order to meet this requirement, that goaltender must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the club's protected list.
|
If you can't meet the requirements of the expansion draft Daly said it would result in the loss of draft picks and/or players.
I don't think it will be difficult to sign or acquire a goalie to expose though... tons of them out there.
Could even extend Johnson, just to expose him.

I think then the Flames should get to pick two goalies before Vegas does.
