I will enjoy my team with no defensive depth.. wow... just typing that when addressing an oilers fan is rediculous in itself.
You guys don't have to ask me, but I've got to ask. Is this guy considered a quality poster on this board?

I see it's "Oilers future is special day on CP". Never fails, July through October.

I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure he contributes more than every six years though.

Honest mistake. Sorry for the confusion. I wasn't meaning to say "you have 3 defensemen because the rest of your guys suck."

Im a garbage poster. But at least im not a delusional Oilers fan trying to convince Flames fans that the Oilers have improved leaps and bounds today and that the Flames D is weak outside the top 3...

I will take being the crapiest poster in the history of CP over being an Oilers fan allday, everyday.

Just Kulak and Wotherspoon is greater defensive depth than the whole Oiler farm and if we sign Nakladal again we won't even need them with Engelland, Wideman and Jokipakka. Andersson and Kylington already have 1/2 potential.

I only started posting because someone broke down the Oilers cap situation and gave McDavid, Draisaitl and Nurse big raises while also including Fayne even though he will be a UFA by then. I also pointed out that the Flames also have some players good enough to be getting some big raises too. Apparently that was bad.

Then I pointed out that Lucic made reference to the Oilers getting bigger, and not that he thought he was the sole reason for the team getting bigger.

...and I may have accidentally insulted the Flames blue line but that really was just a mistake.

See my post above on the bold.

And I actually said the exact opposite on the first part. I said Oilers fans that believe the team is making the playoffs next season are stupid. You decided I was calling you stupid.

So Lucic's and Brouwer's contract expire when they are the same age? Personally, I would rather have Lucic for $1.5 mil more than Brouwer. If everyone expects Lucic's game to fall off a cliff after the age of 32 couldn't the same be said for Brouwer?

Perfectly understandable mistake. As an Oiler fan you are accustomed to thinking ahead to next year.

I dont think its expecting Lucic's game to fall off as much as it is that Lucic has many holes in his game and his skill set is very Oiler'esque.

By that I mean, hes lazy on the backcheck, He is not very good in his own end, isnt very good at covering passing lanes.

These are all areas that the Oilers really need to address, not only from their D, but from their forwards as well.

The big difference between Brouwer and Lucic is, Brouwer is a 200ft player. Plays on both PK and PP.

Lucic is undoubtedly better on the cycle. But both players drive the net and know how to use their big frame.

Brouwer is quite a bit faster than Lucic and plays a bit more of a determined game. I think Lucic gives up on plays in the neutral zone where Brouwer is known to be very good in the neutral zone as well.

So for $1.5 mil more for 3 seasons more, for what an average of 7 pts more a season?

I think Brouwer is not necessarily the better player, but more the player that would most benefit the Flames and Oilers and be less of a burden financially.

The added $1.5m AAV & the added term could be just enough to strangle us cap-wise.

Lucic is the better player, but is he $1.5m better? I'm not sure.

I would have been happy with either player, but Brouwer's contract fits the cap structure better as a support player.

Why would you say the Flames don't have 4-6 defensemen? Jokipakka and Engelland are arguably as good as anyone the Oilers have on their 2nd pairing.

Like I said above. It was an honest mistake. I looked in the wrong column on nhlnumbers.I've apologized for that.

If both Lucic and Brouwer each play top line minutes next season, and barring injury for both, who do you think will end up with more points and the better +/- at the end of the season?

This is an honest question.

Edit: Of course Lucic is playing top line minutes. Brouwer is the question for TOI.
