It would be a signing just for the sake of making a signing. He'd also be a strong candidate to eventually be bought out. You know no one is going to trade for it.

What the Oilers really need is that true offensive Dman that can QB a PP and hold his own defensively. The Tyson Barrie rumours are heating up out of Colorado and that would be a big addition for the Oilers.
In before Dennis Wideman mention!

Wasn't really ripping the Oilers for signing Lucic, more ripping the talking heads who eat up the Oilers garbage every off-season when they have a shiny new forward. Still was awesome to see.

"from an opponent's standpoint you were never afraid to play the Oilers" Milan Lucic.

You don't single handedly change that buddy...

Chiarelli just mentioned Lucics' wife being a nutritious cook as a reason why he will maintain his level of play into his 30's

He also said LA offered 8 years. I'm sure they won't be too happy with that news becoming public!

Always good to have another person who can whip up batches of kool aid for the press and its fans, within that organization.

Sure, the Oilers have improved, but they pretty much had no where to go but up. The question now is how much better are they this year than last year? And how much better are they than their Pacific Division competition?

I would say they are probably better than Arizona and maybe Vancouver, but don't come anywhere close to the level of the other four teams that will compete for playoff spots. This effectively narrows the window for the Oilers to make a big push inside the next two or three years—while they are still getting good value on contracts to one or two of Draiaitl, McDavid, and Puljajarvi. I'm not at all confident that they can do much better than the playoff bubble over that period.

Edmonton is no good.

That's where that inside knowledge really helps Chiarelli...

Three years ago the Oilers line up was...

Hall (6'1, 201) - RNH (6'0, 189) - Eberle (5'11, 181)
Perron (6'0, 200) - Gagner (5'10, 202) - Yakupov (5'11, 195)
Smyth (6'2, 191) - Gordon (6'0, 200) - Hemsky (6'0, 185)
Jones (6'0, 205) - Acton (6'3, 202) - Joensuu (6'4, 210)

Petry (6'3, 204) - J.Schultz (6'2, 193)
Ference (5'11, 183) - N.Schultz (6'1, 203)
Marincin (6'4, 201) - Belov (6'4, 218)

Now it's

Lucic (6'3, 230) - McDavid (6'1, 191) - Eberle (5'11, 181)
Maroon (6'3, 230) - Draisaitl (6'1, 214) - Puljujarvi (6'4, 204)
Pouliot (6'3, 200) - RNH (6'0, 189) - Kassian (6'3, 217)
Hendricks (6'0, 207) - Letestu (5'10, 197) - Pakarinen (6'1, 215)

Klefbom (6'3, 215) - Larsson (6'3, 205)
Davidson (6'2, 210) - Sekera (6'0, 198)
Nurse (6'4, 213) - Reinhart (6'4, 212)

I'd say things have changed. This line up needs a lot of work but it won't get pushed around like it has in the past. Big difference in the top 6 and defense.

I'm guessing second last in the division this year. Las Vegas starts this year right?

However, speaking about today. He played them 5 times last year? No one was afraid.

He's insinuating that he makes them scary now..

But good job with reminding me how laughable that team was 3 years ago..

FYI.. the Oilers still aren't scary. If they manage to build a defence, then perhaps teams will be intimidated, but not today..

This is the year, right? Right?... sane song and dance.

You're taking it out of context. All he meant was the Oilers were easy to play against. They weren't going to push back. He's not talking about literally being afraid to play the game.

...and no one with half a brain is saying "this is the year." Stupid people are the loudest.

Height doesn't mean all that much nor does that weight, McDavid doesn't play a heavy game. Nor does Klefbom or Sekera and especially not Reinhart who's pillowy soft.

I do believe that the Oilers now lead the league in stupid with Nurse, Kassian Hendrickson and Maroon.

The day and age of heavy intimidating teams is pretty well leaving. If you're playing a team with a power play or with speed, they're going to intimidate your players with their ability to make you pay for your stupidity.
