I like it.
Gaudreau- Monahan- Brouwer
Tkachuk- Bennett- Frolik
Bouma- Backlund- Hathaway
Ferland- Stajan- Chiasson
Bollig
Giordano- Brodie
Hamilton- Jokkipaka
Nakladal- Engelland
Wotherspoon
Elliot
Johnson
Playoffs!
Just have to find a way to lose Wideman and Bollig. Will be interesting to see how Shinkaruk, Poirer, and Klimchuck do in camp as well.

Excluding Backlund - that 3rd line looks like a good team's 4th line.

agreed. Hopefully a player like Poirier can play his way into a third line role.

Not a bargain by any means but I definitely prefer Brouwer over Colborne at any cost. The type of player the Flames really need.

Unfortunately, yes. I don't disagree with you. I love the tenacity that Hathaway brings though. Once we lose most of our dead weight next year it should look better. Maybe we acquire somebody via trade/FA that bumps everyone down the roster a little bit.
Also here's hoping continued development from Ferland, Poirer, Klimchuck, and Shinkaruk

4 years is perfect. 30-34 isn't ancient. Not sure what world you're on. Paying an extra 500-750k for a player that fills a gap desperately needing filled doesn't seem like a bad move at all. RW RH & Big n' Physical. I couldn't imagine if we went 6x6 for lucic or poso.

Agreed. I rather have Brouwer at 4x4.5m than Backes at 5x6m and a year older.

where do you rank Brouwer, talent-wise, with the overpaid UFA's
Backes 6
Ladd, 5.5
Okoposo 6
Lucic 6
Erickson 6
Nielson 5.25
Perron
I'd say that his 4.5M fits in the correct order with the 5.25 - 6M of these other players. If they are overpaid then he is as well.

None of them got one more dollar than what one or several teams thought they were worth.
They got exactly what the free market was willing to pay even if only one team was willing to pay that amount
One thing you fail to acknowledge or perhaps understand is that there is no acquisition cost for UFAs.
That is the reason that the free market price is always higher.
How much money is a first round pick worth....or 2 1st or 2 2nd round picks?
In most situations, picks or players of similar value is what the acquisition cost would have been.

No, it is not a bargain contract by any means, but I'm glad we got ourselves the player.

This.
11th in league offense.
The problem was keeping the puck out of our own net. Problem (potentially) solved.

HERO charts are a cheap and weak replacement for scouting. Watching players is still by far the best and most important way to evaluate them.

This is what Erratik had in the other thread:
Here is what I envision:
Gaudreau / Monahan / Brouwer
Ferland / Backlund / Frolik
Tkachuk / Bennett / Chiasson
Bouma / Stajan / Hathaway
Giordano / Brodie
Jokipakka / Hamilton
Naladal / Engelland
Elliot / Johnson
And yes, I am assuming Wideman is gone by training camp.
The only things are does Tkachuk make the team(after reading around and listening online to people, I think he does), Does Wideman go, I hope so.
This is better than 99% of the lineups I have seen, still a long time to go until September, so anything can happen.

I'm not sure I love the deal, but I am certainly assuming that he will be on the 1st line.
There is no rule that you have to put your best 3 players on line 1. Brouwer might be the 6th or 7 the best fwd on the team, but he is probably the best fit for line 1, doesn't matter if he "isn't a true top liner" in some people's opinion.

So replacing Hudler/Jones/Colborne/Jooris up front with Brouwer/Chiasson/Hathaway and Tkachuk. Huge assumption of Tkachuk making the team. At least it's a change. More grit for sure but not getting any faster.

The Flames stole the 2 best players from St.Louis' playoff run this year.
I wonder if Elliott confirmed everything BT was thinking.
