They might get a little more, but it won't be because of what Brouwer just got.

Monahan's best recent comparable is Barkov ($5.9 AAV)
Gaudreau's best recent comparable is Tarasenko ($7.5 AAV)
 |
I'm just looking at it strictly from a negotiating standpoint. The Blues and the Panthers signings fit their cap structure.

I would have preferred Treliving had Monahan and Gaudreau's cap/salary covered before the Brouwer move, that's all.

From a negotiating standpoint, you don't compare 10 year veteran UFAs to RFAs coming off their ELCs. No arbitrator would accept them as comparables, no GM would accept them as comparables. They're apples and oranges.

I'd like the Flames to take a run at Hudler on a 1 year deal. They still need a skill RW, otherwise it'll be a black hole on that side.

Due to bad contracts we are probably going with Chiasson/Pribyl/Poirier or shifting a LW to RW for the season, I guess see what we have and if anyone steps up. Hoping we can land a true 1st line RW next year at the draft from someone thats got cap issues or a good hockey trade.

I dunno I kind of like having Hathaway getting a chance to stick on that 4th line. I just don't think we can afford any of the remaining RW without a change in how we expect the Johnny/Mony deals to go. Also I'd rather save any money we have to resign NakCity!

Why?

Brouwer, Frolik, Chiasson, Hathaway. Outside chance Tkachuk plays there. Looks like we're pretty set at RW

That is a very underwhelming group offensively.

Two 2nd/3rd line guys, and two 4th liners.

Shoehorning Tkachuk onto the first line would be a little nuts considering he's 18.

Good complimentary powerforward types. The skill will come more from the left side with Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Shinkaruk, etc

And Defense. With Brouwer and Chiason going to the net, creating traffic, the Flames will get tons of points from the back end again, as well as the usual suspects.

I also see Brouwer having a career year.

True, it just is underwhelming overall.

The bottom 3 lines of forwards are very good assuming Frolik/Brouwer/Chaisson are on those lines. Add that to the defense and goaltending, and that's building towards being a consistent playoff team.

That lack of a 1st line RW though is just frustrating. That's why I wouldn't mind anyone that has a reasonable amount of skill for that spot like a Hudler type. Cheaper options would be better obviously and I don't see Hudler making more than 3 million.

Brouwer is not a true #1 RW, but for this team, what is needed is a veteran player, big body that will get in on the forecheck, and score goals. You then have competition, with Chiasson being a younger version of Brouwer, so hopefully they can push each other.

Really hope someone asks Brad, if this is a playoff team and if there are more signings and trades to come?

I hope he's announcing the re-signing of Monny and JG..
I'm terrified someone is gonna offer sheet one of them.

Why are they not signed yet?
