Canada's best hope are the Calgary Flames.

Honestly, we have the only competent GM in the NHL.

For those who wonder why Canadian teams haven't won the cup since 1993, just look at today's moves.

Weber is living off reputation. He's just not that good anymore.

Umm...perhaps you should read this thread...

Subban does all those things too. And he's far more offensively gifted. There is absolutely no doubt Subban is more dynamic. Weber is more physical and better at defense though.

Yeah this is a catastrophic PR move for the Canadiens. Subban was by far the face of the franchise and a great guy in the community. Utterly puzzling move, way worse than the Hall trade.

I don't see how this is a robbery for Nashville, Weber is a monster and is a 50 points per season d-man.

I'm opening a new restaurant in Montreal called Chez Weber. You bring us a gourmet steak and we give you back a hamburger that costs more.

Personally, I'd open one in Edmonton, too. Bring in a juicy Alberta beef patty and get a single Swedish meatball with your bill.

Because the only thing left of Weber that's a monster is his reputation.

He's a fine defenceman, but not the Weber that signed that deal.

This. Weber has not been nearly as good as he used to be for a while now.

The Canadiens took the older and worse defenceman today to save a couple dollars.

It's actually unbelievable that the Oilers only held the title of "worst trade of 2016-17" for about an hour.

Webber is definatly declining but subban is beyond overrated. Mtl had to get out of that contract and they knew it. Subban was montreals phaneuf. We knew dion had to go before any other fans around the league knew. Webber will make Montreal a better team even if he's a declining asset.

He's still good. He's not a top defenceman in the league anymore though.

Subban is.

The Edmonton Oilers owned the worst trade this century for all of 20 minutes.

Weber is good. But he's fallen out of elite status IMO.

Subban is still elite IMO.

Hence, Nashville wins this one. (forgetting age/contract etc.)

Not every Canadian team. Calgary moved one step closer to Mason Raymond no longer being on the roster
