If Tkachuk makes it, that's 22 players and $9.5M in space.

I think we can expect UFA activity.
Just wanted to correct myself as these numbers counted Raymond as a contract. Should be:

20 contracts and $10.4M in cap space, or

21 contracts and $9.5M in space

(these numbers do not include Colborne)

They can make Gaudreau play on his QO next year if they want to. No sense opening up your wallet when you don't have to.

Monahan definitely needs to sign something soon here though.

Gaudreau is still allowed to sign in Europe, which he would if the Flames were stupid enough to pull that crap

Makes sense. Cap crunch, still some more roster work to do, and frankly Raymond flopped. Was worth a shot when they signed him, there wasn't a ton on the market at that time. Didn't pan out, good luck Raymond.

Of course not. I don't get why fans think they have a better gauge of the market than the GM's do. Do you really think he just woke up this morning and out of the blue decided to buy out Raymond without looking at every single option out there?

His buyout makes room for Hartnell to come in and take up this role

Though I am more than happy to not have Raymond around any longer, I thought for sure the Flames would ride his ~2million cap hit (after demotion) for the duration of this season.

It makes me think that Treliving expects to be closer to the cap than what I assumed anyways. Either a big ticket FA or a trade in the works.

They saved a lot of money in net, and the Chiasson acquisition provides the Flames with a very cheap depth RW for now. There was room this year to retain Raymond and have his cap hit completely off the books for next season.

Many of us knew this was a horrible signing when it was made. Hell even Feaster knew not to sign Raymond. There was a reason Toronto didn't even try to sign him after he put up a 50 pt season for them.

I will miss Raymond skating fast all hunched over across the blueline only to make a button hook and fall down with nobody around him. Saw him picking himself off the ice watching the opposition skating his puck into our zone way too many times.

Make sure you bring lots of sunscreen Mayray, I hear the sun is hot at this time of year.

There's a glitch in the system where sometimes if you make the last post on a page it'll disappear and re-appear randomly.

An odd player. Tons of speed, but so soft.

Yet he's scored 2 hat tricks in his life, whereas a guy like Monahan has 0.

I wonder if he plays in the NHL ever again.

I'm fairly certain Monahan will finish his career with more than two hatties though, so no worries there.

Oh I'm a huge Mony fan, and I agree with you.

Just odd to think that Mayray has hatties at all.

The Flames can't force anyone to play in their QO, that makes no sense. A qualifying offer is just that, an offer, Gaudreau has to accept it.
