Ivanovic and Begu out (welcome to women's tennis).
Venus survived somehow. Wawrinka's girlfriend choked both sets.

Pretty good start for Milos. No real trouble and overall a pretty efficient match.

Just finished watching Roger's match. He won in 3 sets but Pella gave him all kinds of trouble. Love Roger but can he win a another slam in his 30s. I think Father time is catching up to him. Hope he does well.

This is surely the end of Vasek.

Vasek's ranking is the only thing falling faster than the Pound. Interesting to see where he goes from here.

Doubles specialist, probably. Heir apparent to Nestor?
He's already got six doubles titles, and has won more money this year in doubles than singles. And, the reduced wear and tear should help avoid injuries.

It's too bad, a couple of years ago Vasek was inside the top 30 in men's singles. I mean he can still have a fine doubles career and make some good money travelling to fine locales around the globe, but I don't think that's how he envisioned his tennis career unfolding.

I've always wondered, if you said to Daniel Nestor, you can be one of the world's best doubles players or you can try to play singles, hovering around the 100 ranking mark, what would you do?
All those quotes about hindsight aside, what Daniel has done is incredible. He's one of the most successful Canadian athletes ever, even if he doesn't get the recognition from the mainstream media that he deserves.
It's not a bad path to follow and I think it'll give you career longevity most athletes can only dream of. Imagine being in your 40s and still being at the top of your game?

Considering he will now have to qualify for most events I would say we likely won't see him playing singles very much anymore. It might be good for him to take a step back and focus on doubles for the remainder of the season.
Take another crack at singles next year if he's able to improve his game overall.

Nestor made $12 M playing mostly doubles, and prizes are bigger now.

Prize money will actually be one of the more fascinating things to watch in coming years. Could see a big drop when Roger/Novak/Rafa/Serena retire.

true, it may balance out a bit though. Tennis is truly the Top 1% making 99% of the money. The prize money in Challengers which is ranked 50 and below is peanuts.

So this Federer-Willis match....it feels like an exhibition match. It's also hilarious that Willis is wearing an RF shirt.

I love seeing the reaction from Willis after every point he wins, he's just so thrilled to be there, so excited to be playing
