Gaudreau-Monahan-?
Shinkaruk-Bennett-Chiasson
Stajan-Backlund-Frolik
Ferland-Bouma-Hathaway
Bollig
They sign a top line RWer during UFA or Tkachuk/Poirier/Raymond/Pribyl battle for that spot.
Chiasson gets to play with 2 skilled pests. See if he can find his game. Shinkaruk showed well imo, plus he's spent 2 years in the minors already, is training as hard as ever. Time for him get a hold on that full time top 6 job.
I agree with posters that Stajan has to be moved up in order to justify his salary. Also a decent season might him attractive to an expansion team or a trade bait at the deadline. So who better to prop him up? Backlund himself.
That 4th line could be vicious if they play like they showed they can.

I actually thought Stajan stood out WAY MORE playing wing the last game(s) of the season. I think this is a position he could excel in, more so than 4th line C. If there's anything that can be done to help Stajan justify his contract, it needs to be done!

Can Bouma play center? Seeing it suggested a lot but I can't recall him playing there.

I believe he's always been a Center prior to joining Calgary.

By my count, he will have accrued 7 professional seasons by then and will be eligible for UFA status. Age is the first determining eligibility factor, professional seasons accrued is the other - whichever comes first.

Roof-Daddy: Monahan would be a UFA after 5 years (8 years in the league)
Not at all a good term for him

I'm wondering about the term on these Monahan/Gaudreau contracts. I'm probably wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if BT isn't keen on maxing out term with anybody.

You'll have to, in order to buyout 1-2 UFA years. If I am BT, I would do the max term, because I don't want to force myself into a Subban-like situation where a longer bridge contract (which is essentially what you'd be offering if he's still an RFA at the end) determines the next one, which is going to be uncomfortably expensive. I'd rather tack some hella expensive UFA years onto the cheaper RFA years in order to keep the AAV down in the long run rather than for 4-5 years before the next big raise.

Is it true if the Flames don't have Gaudreau and Monahan extended before July 1 the max we can offer is 7 years? I heard if Stamkos makes it to july 1 Tampa can only go 7 years

Subban only signed a 2 year bridge contract.
In the case of Subban, his 10 years after ELC will cost the Habs 7.775 AAV (2 year bridge + 8 more). Would 8 x 5 have got it done the first time? Probably

This can't be true, Tarasenko signed his 8 year deal on July 7th last summer.

It's not too late for Bollig to get put on waivers for buyout is it?

Buying out Bollig is completely and utterly pointless.
It would actually cost more against the cap to buy him out than it would to just send him to the minors, and on top of that buying him out would extend that for two years instead of just one.
