So I can watch all the Canucks fans cry tears with each passing goal coming off his stick. For all the years they downed on "the off the board reach" and the player himself.

I sure you didn't mean Flames fans?

I would expect a couple of surprises in training camp and Jankowski could be one of them.

As for Stajan, I could see him being a great role model on our AHL team now. The guy is an amazing person, but his play started to diminish. I agree that I could see him going to LV.
We might have a log jam soon for our rookies. There are 4 guys I think have a very real chance of making our roster. Jankowski, Tkachuk, Shinkaruk and Mangiapane. I have my prediction where they place in. I think the most likely would be Jankowski and Tkachuk. They fit the roles nicely. Shinkaruk could make it on the sheer fact that the Flames are weak on RW.
On an unrelated personal level, I hope we trade for Kevin Hayes. I'm hoping it comes true if I say it enough times and wish really, REALLY hard!

Hey, no problem.
Yes, Stajan could be a good role model for Stockton.
Here's the thing. We have about 2 other guys that you could make an argument to have buried in the AHL because they had rough years last year or because of their diminished play. It's possible Raymond could be still in the position he was at the end of this past year being on the outside looking in and still being stuck in Stockton because he had a rough year when with the Flames and, honestly, you could say his play has diminished too, you know. Not to mention, Bollig is another good candidate to be possibly relegated there too.
That said, I find it very hard to see this management being willing to bury over $6 million of cap hit in Raymond, Stajan & Bollig in Stockton cause that's alot of money and (in the case of Stajan & Raymond) not much cap savings since you can only bury up to $950,000 of anyone's cap hit in the AHL. If I had to bet on one of these guys getting buried this year, I'd bet on Bollig and that's probably it IMO.
Why Bollig, you may ask? Two reasons: 1) you can bury most of his cap hit in Stockton (Bollig only has a $1.25M cap hit), unlike Raymond & Stajan. 2) Bollig is the worst of those 3 as a hockey player. Whereas with the other two, you still have $4.4M of those combined still couting against the NHL cap if you bury them. Not getting rid of most of the cap problem.
I think Stajan will stay with the Flames this year and Raymond might be given a good chance to make it. That said, if Stajan has another rough year as a Flame, I think he'll get bought out NEXT June.

Absolutely agree with you on Bollig. He's cheaper to put in the AHL than to buyout. So that's an easy decision. I think we likely buyout Raymond. As you he's expensive to keep in the AHL. I don't think he's good enough to make our team. The roster spot he would take up would diminish the development of a better player. So that just leaves Stajan. I like the idea of him teaching the kinds in Stockton. right now we have too many spot taken by bad contracts. I hope Treliving can work his magic. The Flames can drastically improve if we open up those spots to guys in our system.

If you listen to what the management group says publicly, you'd realize that Stajan is a significant piece of the leadership group of this team. From Burke to Treliving and even Gulutzan in his first media experience after bring hired, they've all mentioned him by name.

It is amazing how many fans seem to have no clue that this is the case.

I don't think that Bollig is going anywhere - Burke and Treliving both want him to play more, not less.
At any rate, it won't matter much with regards to Jankowski. Bollig would only be in the way of a guy like Hathaway. That, in itself, isn't a bad thing, as guys like Hathaway sometimes need that push from below them and an occasional benching as a reminder that they have to play full-out all the time (though, in Hathway's case, full-out seems to be his baseline).
Jankowski, Poirier, Shinkaruk, etc. - these guys will not be affected by the Bolligs. Ferland might if his play drops for a few consecutive games. Bouma as well.
I guess the more appropriate time to figure out how great of a chance Jankowski has at cracking the lineup this season, would be after the UFA period until Treliving announces he is 'done' and doesn't think he will add anyone else from that pool. Once we really know how many bodies will be there for training camp, we can have a better guess at how likely some of the younger guys are to making the team.

I'm not sure about that. Only Burke said that and Trei this off-season has done things opposite of what Burke was saying.
Black and blue hockey, big players at the draft? They went IQ and skill.
Notion that Carlyle ends up in Calgary? Nope, they go get GG.
Bollig to play more? I highly doubt the new coach would be forced to play a plug like Bollig more.
With Ferland/Bouma/Chiasson/Bennett/Hathaway/Shinkaruk possibly already in the bottom 6 (Monahan/Backlund as top 2 Cs but I'm sure Bennett will play as much), you don't need useless Bollig.

Treliving has singled out Bollig as one of the leaders in the room on numerous occasions in the past. I highly doubt he is going anywhere. He will sit in the pressbox for half the season so that a prospect doesn't need to

If someone steals his roster spot it won't matter. Teams trade captains these days.
Stajan is the softie, community service, good in the room version of Big Ern. Everyone loves him for good reason, but he would only ever be a minor part of a great team (depth guy, press box).
Same with Bollig and Eng. Flames mgmt is making the best of a bad cap situation with all the tire pumping.

Before draft: 5
After draft: 3
Id think Tkachuk plays 9 games while Jankowski plays in the AHL
