Rooney indicates that he will not retire internationally.

Which is fine, the manager just shouldnt select him. Problem solved.

They spend more time and effort making Wayne Rooney happy than they do selecting and organizing the team. What is the deal? Does he have compromising photos or something?

Why would Rooney retire? As this tournament showed he's still one of England's better players, and that's obviously not meant to be a good thing so much as a sign England still have a ways to go. Pretty much all the strikers were average at best, no one in the midfield really threatens much either. It's not really about catering to Rooney, it's more that realistically who is better? That would be England's problem.

Kane in particular was just not very good in the tournament. I know there's been excuses thrown around trying to defend him but at the end of the day he basically had no meaningful impact at all in the tournament. Lallana had more impact. Hindsight obviously is nice but Roy really needed to give Rashford more chances, especially tonight only bringing him on with minutes to play. Bring him on at halftime and I bet England scores that tie goal. He and Vardy were the only two giving a #### tonight.

I don't think Kane had a good tournament at all but part of why he was so good with Spurs was how they lined him up with Alli, which Hodgson refused to do because he wanted to cater to Rooney. Rooney was absolutely atrocious today.

any striker is going to look bad when they dont have a competent game plan to get them the ball or create chances

it's not as though he missed clear cut chances or wasn't running the channels to create space or look for passes. Just had no service behind him.

Also I think chasing the ball as it equals work ethic is really overrated, Rashford got put on the wing when Iceland was packing the box so he had room

situations set up a player to look well

4-4-2. England must play 4-4-2.

With that out of the way. Build your team

Lol
Sure. Rooney's fault that he ballooned that free kick in the final minutes.
Rooney was atrocious today. Kane was absolutely useless all tournament. A complete no show.

Rooney had a couple of good games, but he was still being shoe-horned into an unnatural position where there were better players.

Rooney =/= Kane, they werent playing the same position.

I was just saying that I would love to watch that game with the Icelandic commentary even though I cant utter a word of it.

It was incredible to me that England played so many players out of position. I don't believe Hodgson had a clue what his best team was and he certainly didn't have a clue tactically. That was a cakewalk for Iceland yesterday.

In what world is Sturridge a right winger? What was the point in playing him there? Don't bother playing him period then.

Rooney has been a great ambassador for his country but I do believe his time is done. There was definitely no point in playing him out of position when there are better options.

That Hodgson was even managing this team at this tournament given the World Cup debacle is ridiculous in the extreme. The Englisb FA are completely insane. A complete joke. Glad to see the back of Hodgson but it's not like the FA will bring in anyone better.

I hear Alan Shearer fancies the job. He's asked the FA before but they say he lacked experience. Hmm, like that has helped the recent crop of duds. Not exactly a fan of his but sure, why not? It's not as if he could do any worse.

"Boo how much you want, English! Iceland will play France on Sunday. You can go home! You can leave Europe! You can go wherever the hell you want!”#

Iceland announcer got a little mad after English fans boo Iceland players.

Southgate seems to be the favorite

Hoddle, Howe, Pards behind him

And what is the fascination with Wilshire and leaving Drinkwater at home?

Poor me Croatia lost. If ever there was the opportunity to win hardware, it was this year. Although they definitely won't be slouches in 2018 since the core is fairly young still.

England getting embarrassed somehow makes it better though.

Unfortunately for Iceland, the fairy tale ends vs France.

It'll be tougher against France for sure but that French back 4 (Rami suspended)..... Iceland's height and wide play would cause problems

France aren't chokers like England. In a lot of ways that early penalty was truly the worst thing that could happen to England, because it got it in their heads that this could be easy. Once Iceland immediately struck back, England was basically done because they weren't coming back mentally from that. Still cannot believe how piss poor England's effort was, losing is bad but if Iceland beat them in a hard fought battle so be it. To lose with such a pathetic effort is what should bring the shame.
