As soon as Columbus entertained the idea of trading down, Edmonton knew they had a chance to draft JP. All Columbus had to do is play Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton against each other and let Edmonton think they won.

Really think Vancouver had the worst draft. They even had people booing at their draft party.

They picked a guy at 5th overall who most scouts seem to believe has a ceiling as a #3 defenceman... Maybe a #2 if they are really lucky and patient. I think they could have picked almost anyone else in the top 10-15 rankings at that spot and done better. Guys like Keller, Nylander, or Brown all seem to have a higher ceiling potential from what I've read. Even worse cause they could have gone with Tkachuk and everyone would have applauded them for it cause he was the BPA.

That team is desperate to add top six talent to their prospect pool and they skipped out on an easy opportunity to do it.

I won't bash them for their first pick. If Columbus stays the course, i think the flames would have taken that D-man.

Disagree on the Juolevi pick I think it was the right call for the Canucks. They are about to embark on a painful road especially if they land a couple big fish UFA's. They could easily be a more competitive team but at best be in the mix for a wildcard spot.

Sedins have 2 years left and then a true rebuild can start. It will be helpful to have a 22-23 year old Dman in Juoevi when they hope to turn a corner to compete again

Depends what rumor you listen to. Some have said the Oilers take Tkachuk but I have read a few articles that would have one believe they wanted Sergachev and would have drafted him or moved down.

Going by what Flames management said at the draft. They said once Columbus took Dubois they knew they had Tkachuk. To me it implied that if Columbus stayed on course then Edmonton would have picked him.
