How come Jon and Sansa didn't go see Howland Reed and ask for his help to take back Winterfell?

Greywater Watch moves according to Meera Reed. They might not even be able to find it. It's also the furthest southern Northern house, and they aren't a big or strong house. So it might not have been worth the hassle.

With all the houses of the North naming Jon King of the North, does this legitimize him and can he now use the name Stark?

I was actually thinking, who has that authority? Lord Bolton made Ramsey real. Stannis had offered it to Jon.

Any lord? A king?

Does Sansa not have the authority as the highest ranking Stark and therefore Lady of Winterfell and Warden of the North? If the Mormonts put a 10 year old girl in charge, I'm sure the Starks could have a female leader.

Yeah, but that 10 year old girl is terrifying. I wouldn't want to be the one to question her authority.

It's royal decree. Stannis, as king, had the power to legitimize Jon Snow.

Lord Bolton received legitimization of Ramsey through Tommen/Joffrey Baratheon.

I think there was a bit of a de facto legitimization of Jon Snow when he was named King in the North...if not he could legitimize himself :P

And to think that people were siding with Cersei half a season ago...

In one episode became arguably the new big bad. Even though she's always been awful, just on the peripheral as others were always the ones in power.

As much as I'm pretty meh about Dany, I'd pay to see her set Cersei ablaze.

The whole naming of the "King in the North" thing seems a bit different. While the Iron Throne is given after deliberation, consideration of bloodlines, due process, etc...

The King in the North title seems to be given to whomever can get the best chant going on.

The whole story is basically the riddle that Varys and Tyrion discussed back in the early part of season 2.

Who really holds power? Cersei has no legitimate claim to the throne, yet she now wears the crown. Jon has no legitimate claim, yet he was just declared King in the North, over his own true-born sister. Dany has the most legitimate claim of anyone, yet she is only slightly closer to the throne than she was when Robert died.

People can make all sorts of rules and laws, but ultimately, the person who sits on the throne is the person who people allow to sit on the throne.

Well as King I'd imagine Jon as that authority himself.

I think the people gave Jon the power when they knelt and declared him King in the North. I doubt he carries the Snow name or the ####### tag next season.

And uhh... that "10 year old girl" has a bigger set of brass than this entire board combined!

And just another example of how good this episodes music was.

She declared him King in the North while at the same time saying "I don't care if he's a #######". I don't think he's shaking that tag anytime soon.

He was hidden so Robert wouldn't kill him. If he was Robert's son, there would have been no point in hiding him.

No more than all of Robert's other #######s, who were hidden out of embarrassment, not because their lives would be threatened.
