It does strike me as strange we didn't use Colborne, Ortio, Shore or Jooris as trade pieces. I wonder what the game plan is going forward. I hear arbitration was a big reason to not give a qualifying offer.

Ya I get it. Would prefer to sign colbourne to reasonable deal, but the risk of him going are and getting settlement outweighs his value on the right contract. Definitely not down on him like some, but he is realistically replaceable.

What does it mean that Monahan and Gaudreau are given qualifying offers? Is the Flames just going to offer them the minimum?

I guess the play here is to undercut the bargaining ability of Colborne, with the risk being he walks as a UFA.

So does the Weisbrod connection mean Agostino ends up in the Canucks organization?

Shore and Ortio hit and cleared waivers in the past year. Jooris and Colborne likely have little value and teams typically do not want to pick up an Arb case. Treliving also says he is still talking to Colborne, Ortio, and Jooris

Or maybe there just isn't a trade market for fringe NHLers? If teams could trade tweeners for anything of substantial value I think you'd see a lot more trades.

But teams already have their tweeners that are trying to make the team and are in and out of the lineup.

Makes sense when you look at the farm team I guess - not much space for some of the forwards with guys that are graduating and guys that we need to see in bigger roles.

Forwards that potentially end up in Stockton that are under contract:

Jankowski, Pribyl, Smith, Klimchuk, Poirier, Shinkaruk, Pollock, Mangiapane, Hathaway, Carroll, Hamilton.

Maybe space for one or two of Agostino, Elson, Arnold, Van Brabrant, etc but really we have younger guys coming up that need spots in Stockton. All those guys will be 24 by the start of next season so really they are at the age where they are no longer really prospects.

I probably still keep Agostino though.

Most of these guys were making $70k in the AHl.... didn't save that much in salary.

Is there a complete list of players from every team that weren't qualified?

Colborne is so freaking overrated on this board. Let him walk if he can't be signed for 2 million.

Giving them a QO just ensures that their rights are retained past July 1st.

Doesn't mean that is all they are offering.

Shinkaruk-Jankowski-Pribyl
Klimchuk-Hamilton-Poirier
Mangiapane-Pollock-Caroll
Raymond-Lomberg?-Smith

Only hole seems to be a filler 4C. Unless the plan is Hamilton in the NHL. Either way AHL 4Cs are usually AHL-contracts.

Then a year from now they may want to bring in a guy like Karnaukhov.

Here is a depth chart of what the Heat will have to build from depending on who makes the NHL.

I have a feeling they will try Pribyl at center seeing as how Pascal made mention of him being able to play that position, and now that they've cut loose guys like Arnold, Shore and Elson.

Hopefully Raymond doesn't end up there, but we will see I guess.

Yeah, obviously I was referring to if they were in the bigs.

No. This is a required step to maintain RFA rights to the player. It's all part of the process.

Hard to tell Agostino he didn't have a good enough year last year...
I'm guessing many of those guys do fill out the Stockton roster... Just not on NHL contracts.

I don't think Colborne is that great but even if you don't like him, he's 26, 6'5" 220 and just scored 20 goals and 40 points. He's an asset that has some value and would hope that if he's not signed we don't lose him for nothing.

That said I think he will sign pretty quickly here much like Byron did, before UFA kicks in.
