If he makes the team then he gets #21.
I really like Seiloff and had him as a darkhorse to make the squad. Hope it works out well for him.
Don't mind the move at all.
Wonder if Bouma is worried at all about this?

Sad to see Sieloff go, but Chiasson gets a great chance to revive his career with the wide open right side in Calgary. Best of luck to both of them.

Wish we would have traded for Wiercioch too.
Good underlying numbers, decent size, still young at only 25, and lots of upside there IMO.
Guess the issue is we have no real room for him in our already log-jammed defense though.

Hmm, I know it's been suggested that the Flames don't qualify Jooris now, but I wonder if Bollig could be a buyout candidate?

Not a big fan of Chiasson, but I like this deal. Sieloff wasn't going to be an NHL player and most likely just included in this deal to even out the number of contracts. Also reduces the crowded group of defensemen the Flames have in Stockton. Also if Chiasson really disappoints, they can put him in the AHL without a hit to the salary cap.
I wonder if this mean Jooris or Colborne is not qualified.

Doubt they buy Bollig out. Throw him in the minors, burries $900k of his $1.25m

Unless you want to free up a contract spot, or save the owners cash, buying out Bollig doesn't make sense. Just better to bury him in the minors.

Like this move. Basically get a roll the dice with Chiasson for relatively low risk. Didn't see Sieloff ever panning out. Chiasson is exactly what the team needs if he can put it togehter.

I've been talking about Chaisson as a Flame for about 8 months now. I would encourage people to look past his time with Ottawa, and concentrate on why he was a major piece in the Spezza trade instead. He was keeping up with the top 2 lines in Dallas, while hitting everything in sight, and not being a defensive liability.
I remember this guy being a game changer. Look for a bump in point production for whomever his linemates end up being. He's a second assist guy, and that's ok.
Wouldn't surprise me at all if he gets a look at the top line at camp.

Nice! That's a quality NHLer for a guy that was probably never going to make the Flames (sadly).

Alex Chiassons stats in Dallas under Glen Gulutzan: 7 games, 6 goals + 1 assist, +3, 0 PIM

Seems they are happy to get rid of him on HF.
But I don't think he was in a particularly good situation in Ottawa. Was supposed to be the biggest piece in return for Spezza.

They're thrilled to have Chaisson gone. One even suggested that even if Sielof's infection killed him, this would still be a win for the Sens.
I think some of that comes from him being underwhelming in the sense that he was a return in the Spezza trade

I have seen a couple of people make the connection but I don't think Gulutzan ever coached Chiasson.
He would have been aware of him and seen him at camps but I think that's it. Gulutzan's last season in Dallas was Chiasson's rookie season in the AHL
Edit: No devo22 is correct there is a 7 game stint with some nice numbers

He was the guy I liked as a RW target after Devante Smith Pelley, and that worked out really well for Jersey.

Mostly happy they got something for him. Offensive blackhole was tossed out on HF a few times.
Said he can play without being a liability though. Some thought he was in a position to bounce back to a 30pt season on the right team.

he got called up in the lockout shortened season, which was Gulutzans last season as Stars HC. 7 games, 6 goals.

I was a big fan of Sieloff's even though I thought over the last couple years really became overshadowed by more impressive Defensive prospects, it's too bad a freak infection threw a huge hitch into his development curve. I really hope he gets a chance to show himself in Ottawa.
I'm looking forward to seeing what Chiasson can do, maybe a mulligan on B***N?
