Good chance Robidas is LTIR bound as well no? There is another $3 million.
Then after next year they have Laich, Michalek, Greening, Robidas, Hunwick and Bernier scheduled to come of the books which will free up $18 million+ for the 2017/18 season.

Likely Toronto with Detroit being the long shot. I see no chance for poor Buffalo on this one.
Interesting comments on NHL Network radio this morning about Vesey waiting to see where Stamkos lands before deiciding to sign in Buffalo or wait until August 15th when he can shop himself around.

Detroit for 9 mill ×7? Just a guess.

The 7 mil in space appears to take those things into consideration, unless this site is inaccurate.

Watch him sign with a team no one really saw coming.
Like Dallas for instance.
Benn - Stamkos - Seguin

I really don't care. He will get overpaid, and have injury shortened seasons. Not interested at all.

Because the LTIR guys still count until the start of the season, and they can only be over the cap in the summer by 10% I believe. So 10% means over the cap by 7.3M. Horton and Robidas are 8.3M. They really only have $5.955M in available "summer cap" by my count.

Sorry, what? In his 8 seasons in the NHL, he has missed 53 of 622 games and 45 of those were due to a broken leg. 5 of the other 8 were due to a blood clot. You make it sound like he's injury prone. He had 1 broken leg after a bad fall and a blood clot in his arm/shoulder. Not a bad injury record for 8 seasons work in the NHL.

I know we like to chirp teams that go all offense all the time, but how could that line not be the nastiest line in the NHL. Even if they don't have chemistry you could throw them all on their own line.
something like
Janmark-Spezza-Seguin
Benn-Faksa-Sharp
Nichuskin-Stamkos-Hemsky
Fiddler-Eakin-Guryanov
the defense would then look like
Russell-Klingberg
Lindell-Johns
Benn-Honka
which honestly doesn't look much worse than the Pens's cup winning defense.
they'll need better goalies though.

I think we're involved -- I don't think it's a slam dunk or anything but we have to be at least as likely as Detroit, no? Especially if we offer more money. Detroit's best player just retired and their other best player is 35 years old. Plus Detroit is one of the few cities that's really less appealing from a lifestyle perspective than Buffalo.
Lots of factors in play -- I wouldn't say Buffalo has no chance, but I'm also trying not to get my hopes up.

Forwards: 34.5M

IMO, he is going to have more blood clot issues. Do not wish that on anyone, but I personally would not want to have him on my team. But I am not a GM, so wtf do I know.
Just putting in MY $.02.

Another thing people don't consider is that Terry Pegula isn't afraid to throw down a lot of cash on players up front. Take our most recent big contract, the O'Reilly deal.
http://www.spotrac.com/nhl/buffalo-sabres/ryan-oreilly/
His cap hit is $7.5 mil, but he'll be taking home $ 11 million in pay this season. This kind of creative structuring and ridiculously rich owner could swing things -- it would certainly be enticing to get a $10+ million signing bonus on July 1st.

How is Buffalo going to afford Ristolinen, Reinhart, and Eichel with the huge payday a that RoR and Stamkos will have (likey $20M combined cap hit)?
The Red Wings, or Habs make the most sense to me as neither team really has great young talent that will cost them money down the road. Galchenyuk and Larkin could get paid but Buffalo and Toronto have multiple young Stars that will want to get paid in 3-4 years when Stamkos is in the midde of his contract

If Stamkos was smart he would take the $8.5 million that TB is offering. He gets a better chance at the cup, less taxes, better climate. If he takes $10-$10.5 and sign in comparatively crappy cities like Buffalo or Detroit it would be mind-boggling. Toronto even makes less sense in some ways. He would never get any peace and quiet with the media and fans. The Leafs will not be close to a cup for at least 5 years.

I think he shocks people and takes less to stay in Tampa. Tampa being significantly better to live in than Buffalo, Detroit or Toronto, plus zero state income tax, plus playing on a stacked team that could easily go to the Finals several times in the next 5-10 years...easy call really. Take a little less to be a lot happier.

You may not be a GM, but apparently you're Stamkos's doctor. Can you tell us more about his likelihood of experiencing future blood clot issues following surgery?
