That's a lot of weight to put on in a few months.
Where did you see this?
Just curious.

While it'd be nice to see guys like Freddie and Bryce back, I just don't think there's a spot in the organization for them. Sort of like Jones at the trade deadline: great guy, but not necessarily a spot for him in the lineup.
I see everyone but Poulin and van Brabant qualified. Keep Freddie, just to keep Dougie happy and to keep Stockton clicking.

#Penguins will not tender a qualifying offer to D Justin #Schultz, will become UFA July 1.

This isn't shocking. He was overpaid and not worth his QO. He'll sign as a free agent somewhere as a 3rd pairing/7th man.

I don't think Elson or Arnold will be qualified. Elson seems to have plateaued as an AHLer and Arnold made zero progress this year. I'd also prefer if Van Brabant is not qualified, his skillset is redundant and his offensive game is lacking. Also have my doubts about Shore, he just doesn't seem to have the hands to hang in the NHL.

Agreed, limited viewing but liked Freddie's game. Let's see what he can do over a longer stretch and make sure it wasn't just adrenaline from playing with his brother.

Doesn't look like a good 15 pounds though.

to not qualify him would be insane

If speed is one of the top factors moving forward then Jooris might be a decent replacement for Stajan on the 4th line, or more likely a decent option to rotate with Stajan on the 4th line. I can see him being qualified.

In your opinion maybe. How do we know they didn't try and trade him at the deadline and maybe the market just wasn't there for him? In that situation it wouldn't be crazy. If he isn't part of future plans then nothing crazy about it.

Not really.
Don't qualify him - At worst he walks and we replace him either internally or via UFA or Trade. You open up a spot on your power play units for guys like Tkachuk and Jankowski if they're ready. Not like Colborne on the PP was working all that great.
Qualify him - At worst you're forced into paying ~3.6M (I think that's this year's walk-cutoff) for a tweener 2nd/3rd liner in a year of huge cap squeeze and you're forced to buy out another contract which in turn removes cap space from the following year.
While 40 point forwards have their value, teams let them go for nothing all the time if they're not core pieces. Look at Andrew Shaw, who's on the verge of signing a 4.0M x 6Y deal. Sometimes even productive players have to be let go.

I cant see Kevin Poulin getting qualified. This assumption is not based on his play ( admittedly i havent seen much), instead its based on roster spots. David Rittich probably took his spot.

I've always wondered what the plan was with him. I like him as a player, but it seems like we're never going to give him a shot.

I wouldn't call it insane. We're talking about a player that was very mediocre for the majority of his time here aside from a couple of months at the end of a lost season. As other posters pointed out, it happens all the time. The Flames were one of the worst teams in the league. If Colborne was so good he'd have made more of a difference in that throughout the season. Some things have got to change if the team is going to get better. Losing a inbetween forward is surely not going to make much of a difference if it happens.

Do teams typically make QOs only on deadline day (i.e. today)? Or do they tender QOs in the period leading up to today; keep them under-wraps and then the league announces them after the deadline?
I'm thinking about the "broken-fax machine" problem that hit the Blackhawks in 2009.

I believe Colborne can become a UFA next summer so he may sign a one year contract at a discount in order to look for a good raise in 2017 with whoever.

Coach Huska was actually quite complimentary of VanBrabant. Not sure they'll let him walk, he's a big grinder and could be a Burke type black and blue player.
Poulin seems like a no brainer. I'm sure they'll not qualify someone else but its tough to figure out which one.
