She was wife to Robert, and Queen Mother when her sons ascended to the throne...
She has the strongest claim and the power to back it up.
If any other Baratheon had the backing to put a claim on the throne, I think they would have surfaced by now or been killed off by Cersei around the same time she was finishing off Robert's #######s.

Wouldn't Gendry (I think that's his name) be in line for the throne if he ever stopped rowing?

How would he be able to prove it?
Just show up at the red keep, say he is Robert's son and they will hand over the crown.

and that makes me sad a bit, cause even though this season was awesome and clearly best of the 6, I would have loved to be a dumb viewer all on my own and be shocked by things like Jon's true parents or Cersei's nuclear takeover.
then again, maybe shock and unpredictability are overrated, because those elements are only in play the very first time you watch. after that, they're gone and it's all the other components of good TV that have to be there to enjoy it the next viewing.

To me they over foreshadowed the sept blowing up by including it in Brans vision and Tyrion/ Varyius talking. Just Cersai's comments to her Maester should have been sufficient. And Johns not being just a ####### has been pretty clear for a while and given that there are extra dragons around it just made sense. So I disagree it was the Internet or discussion here that made those two predictable.
I think it's that to conclude arcs the pieces need to move to certain places so plots become obvious as there aren't very many ways out that are satisfying this late in the game.
I don't want this to come of as criticism to what is a great show that i really like but you compare this to say the red wedding where you knew something bad was going to happen but not what. Where here you knew everything but how Tommen would be resolved.

I predict the Kingslayer will be a Queenslayer soon enough. Probably as Dany's horde approaches and Cersei reaches max crazy.

I sure as hell didn't. I suspected for a long time the piece about Jon Snow & Lyanna, but other than that I was surprised by a lot of happenings in this episode. The fun thing about GoT, is even if you think you know how some things are going to happen, you don't. A lot of the time things play out completely differently than you expect (for me, anyway). I suspected a little bit into the episode that Cersei was going to blow up the sept, but seeing it happen even though I kinda knew it was coming was still awesome.

Well there could be some sort of link, Cersei and Ned figured it out didn't they? I'm not saying it's a slam dunk, but if there was some sort of proof wouldn't he be next in line before Cersei?

Did anyone else think Jamie was going to die at the Twins with Walder Frey.
I was on edge for the first 30 mins of that episode waiting for him to die.

B###### names come from the regions they are born into, not attached to a family.
http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/#######y
Quote:
####### surnames are dependent on the region a child was born in, i.e. where the mother is from, not where the father is from. For example, a noble lord from the Stormlands could father one ####### child in the Vale, and another in the Riverlands, but neither would use the surname "Storm": the first ####### would use the surname "Stone", and the second would use the surname "Rivers." It is extremely unusual for a ####### to know who his nobleman father is, but not his mother. Therefore Jon Snow's situation is additionally unusual, not just because he actually lives with his nobleman father, but because he wasn't even born in the North. Eddard Stark brought him back to Winterfell as an infant after fighting in the south during Robert's Rebellion, but refused to say who his mother was or where she came from. As a result of the mystery surrounding his mother's identity, Jon ended up using the surname "Snow" by default.

I think we have all become aware of the fact that "rightful" claim means the one with the biggest army.

so since his mother is a Stark would he then be given the Snow name anyway, or would it be Sand due to the region of birth. Those two while usually being the same for a #######, in this case are in conflict

Or maybe they needed to cut the money they were spending on the cast so they can afford all the epic battles over the next 2 seasons.

How does Jon find proof of his parentage? Bran tells him then he gets proof from the lowborn midwife or Howland Reed? Combination of both?
