Was thinking the same thing, as I'm sure many were.

Compare Forsberg to any of Edmonton's 6x6 crew. Predators got a bargain here.

It makes me chuckle every time I remember that trade.
Erat scored 2 goals in 62 games for the Caps.
Latta has scored 4 in 113.
Forsberg has only managed 60 (in 182).

I would be over the moon if Monahan signed an identical deal.

Really hope we can avoid 6 year deals with Monahan and Gaudreau. Really need to try and get those guys on 8 year deals

This is the one add for me too.
I would be willing to pay a little more now to ensure we get the 7th year for these guys.
Monahan would then be 29 at the expiry, and Gaudreau would be 30.
Could probably go 8 years too.

Decent deal for the Preds, but Forsberg is a winger so not a great comparable for Monahan IMO.
I'm thinking they won't get Gaudreau to sign a 8 year deal. 6 years will take him to 29.
Monahan I could see signing an 8 year deal, which would increase his cap hit a bit in order to buy a couple more UFA years.
Gaudreau - 6 years / $6.75 million per (Losing those two years lowers cap number from Tarasenko comparable)
Monahan - 8 years / $6.75 million per (Gaining those two years increases cap number from Barkov comparable)
Aligns with "Gio Cap" (Don't know if this is really a thing, just speculating)

Yep - Monahan $6m, Gaudreau $7m seems totally fair and reasonable. Each 6 or 7 years.

Also, hopefully this puts them over their internal budget and as a result they trade us James Neal.

I'd add 1 mil a year to get the extra 2 years for sure!

It would've been a huge difference maker for them. Potentially even cost them a Stanley Cup, or at least the opportunity to leverage some of their older assets. Likely go down as one of the worst/best trades in franchise history for the respective teams.

Forsberg has been playing the wing a lot early on in his career but I highly doubt he is not a full time center as early as this season.

I feel like Treliving can get them for 5.75 - 6.5. Would definitely be a good idea staggering contract renewal years so that you don't have to re-up your entire core at once.

According to what? I certainly don't see it that way. IMO, Forsberg is a step above Monahan and about on par with Gaudreau.

I don't necessarily see a contract difference between Monahan and Gaudreau. Gaudreau scored more points but Monahan plays centre, a more valuable position. I think between $6 and $6.5 each for the both of them.

How do you figure that Forsberg is a step above Monahan? Both are the same age and they have practically mirrored each other in production, but Monahan has the added responsibility of playing the more difficult position.
I'm curious to hear your explanation.

I'm hoping for 8 year deals as well, but I get the feeling that is unlikely. So much can happen in 8 years that the chances the contract will be a big disappointment for one side or the other is high. I see 6 years deals for both, the Flames still get them in their primes at a lower cap hit, hopefully with at least one cup ring each.
6x6 makes a lot of sense for Monahan. 7mx6yrs for Gaudreau is fair as well.
