All in all, really happy with the Flames draft. Took a bunch of really good players with immense upside and hockey IQ.
Aside from Tkachuk I think Tuulola is by far my favorite pick. Really happy.

Maybe we can get Sokolov to prospect camp as an invite. I really thought some team would take a shot at this guy.

It is a good draft. Unlike last year nothing we did on day 2 thrilled me but I have no complaints with the picks.
All of them look fairly long-termish. I don't ever expect to see Phillips and Falkovsky in Flames colours except for camps and Lindstrom and Fox have work to do to become more complete players. Parsons and Dube are decent prospects. Mattson and Tuulola are high risk but possible good-reward picks and I have no problem with making them in later rounds.
And day 1 was awesome as it was last year

Was heavily speculated Yakupov would get moved on day 2, but nothing yet. Oilers wanted a prospect of some sort, likely only picks offered

Breaking news: Flames trying trade the extra "E" in Eetu and "U" in Tuulola for Nail Yakupov. Treliving dealing from a position of strength.

Phillips will be one of the leading scorers in the WHL next year and people here will be salivating over him. Whether or not he'll become a real good prospect is unknown, but he's going to put up a lot of points in junior.

After he spends a few years in the cookie factory and/or the North Pole I fully expect he turns into the next Zetterberg.

I agree that he will do well next year. And I know the NHL is changing/has changed and there is a lot more roster space for the small speedy skill guys. With Gaudreau we know that better than most. But at 5'7 and 160 you have to be elite not just good. The game hasn't changed that much. If at 18 he was 5'10 and 170 I'd say he has a reasonable shot but at his size he is a real long long shot
Maybe Phillips can do it but I don't think so. There is really only one role for those guys and that's top line scorer. Paul Byron is the only really small guy I can think of that made it even in today's NHL in a non-scoring role and he's just barely above being a fringe player

I'm not sure that'll get it done. EU is pretty undervalued these days

Sounds like a few RFA's won't be back. Treliving won't comment on things until they get back to Calgary to inform the players.

Could see Van Brabant and Poulin being let go easily. Agostino and Shore, possibly. Not sure what to make of Elson, sounds like he's a popular guy in Stockton but clearly has no future with the big team. Maybe they throw him an AHL contract.

We have 19 players likely to start in Stockton already under contract. A further 9 are RFAs(Wolf, Wotherspoon, Van Brabant, Shore, Poulin, Hamilton, Elson, Agostino, Arnold).
I think only Hamilton and Wotherspoon are likely to be kept from that group.

Has Arnold actually fallen that far that they don't qualify him?
