Since we now know that Kevin Hayes is Matthew Tkachuk's cousin in addition to being Johny's line mate (plus being young and 6'5"), I think our path is very clear.

Make it happen Tree.

I expect the Flames to sign Elliot to an extension this summer and it will probably by $5 mill/yr max imo.

Not big, but not small either and is a #### to play against. A right hand shot and compliments elite players rather nicely. Also still just 28 and probably won't cost more than $4 million per.

(Insert tinted visor joke here)
I'm a huge Perron fan.

He led the Oilers in goals, didn't fold like a cheap tent when things got grim, and called out his teammates on the "visually improved" horsecrap, pointing out that the results on the ice sure hadn't changed.

They should have made him captain. Instead, they flipped him for a draft pick. That kind of thing doesn't fly in Edmonton.

He's a quality player, and if he'll bite on a $4m contract, I'd give him 4 or 5 years at that price.

That's what I was thinking. 4 x $4 million

Yeah, I like the Brouwer suggestion. He's got the right skillset and has been around the block. He's got 98 playoff games under his belt and he's got a cup.

My only worry is that it could take Clarkson-esque numbers to sign him. At 32 term is a worry...

God no to Brouwer. We need a skilled guy, not a Clarkson

If you can get Backes on a deal less than 5 years I think you do it. Good role model for the younger guys and can play RW on either line.

No the flames need a big guy that can put the puck in the net once in a while. I get that we drafted a PF with our first pick, but he is years away from coming in and being dominant. Flames are still a small team.

Actually we need both.

Leave Johnny in his natural position where he works magic, Lucic can crash nets and punch faces on the off wing.

I like Perron but I don't think he's an answer for the top line. He'd be good with Bennett on the 2nd though. Not sure what the price would be.

Just noticed both posts I quoted are the same guy, I wasn't trying to single you out honest

I would pick up one of Okposo, Backes, Eriksson or Lucic if we could get one for less then 5M at 4 years.

I bet Hudler could be brought back at a reasonable price. Don't know how well he would fit into Gulatzans system though.

Just sayin'

I have a hunch the Flames will go out and trade for one at least and then kick some tires on the available RW FA's.

It's too bad contract status wise a guy like Nichushkin doesn't really line up with the Flames cap situation, because he'd be a good fit on this core.

I'd still be interested in Hartnell. CBJ needs to shed salary, and we could probably get them to retain a small amount of it.

I was going to say perhaps we could bring hudler back on the cheap but I also like the hartnell idea, provided salary retained. Despite the great value we'll get from Elliott, I'm still not sure how we fit a UFA in.

Backes would be a fascinating addition to CGY with Tkachuk now in the mix.

Gaudreau-Monahan-Backes
Tkachuk-Bennett-Frolik/RW to be named later
Shinkaruk-Backlund-Hathaway?
Ferland-Bouma-???

Iginla for Wideman solves a lot of problems.

I just don't want to go there though.

I would not take Vanek even if he wanted to play for free.
