Monahan, Gaudreau, Bennett, Hamilton, Giordano, Brodie....none of these guys should be moving today. Anything can happen but I don't see the Flames even considering moves with any of those guys. They likely all are more valuable to the Flames IMHO then they would be in a trade. Looking beyond basic trade value these are all guys who fit into what the Flames are looking for and they are most familiar with these guys and what they are capable of, what they are like in the room and in the community then they would be of any players from other teams.

Edmonton wants Hamilton as much as Calgary wants to move up in the draft. Who is to say that the Oilers need to buckle up? After all, Treliving has a few hours to move up. Oilers can look for a D all summer.

Oh I think so. If Treliving offered that (which he wouldn't), Chiarelli would drive Hall to the Greyhound station himself (did you think airport? c'mon this is the Oilers).

Wow, that's some pipe dream.

I think the Flames would have to add to Hamilton to get the 4th. And not a Wideman or Raymond. An actual asset like a 2nd or something.

That said I will gladly be proven wrong.
This is the problem with overvaluing of draft picks. Is who we get at number 4 going to be a better player than Hamilton is now? If the chance of that happening are decently small (which they are), why would you trade an established player for that, much less add to it?

Draistil + 4th overall for Dougie Hamilton anyone?
Upfront salary savings and he seems like he would fit well with Bennett allowing him to play LW.

I know it's still an overpayment but when it comes to dealing with a rival and crossing off one of their biggest organizational needs, it still doesn't seem like enough. Make them add a 2nd!

How is that any different from our own Sean Monahan? Hall is an elite winger. If he played for any other team he'd be having a Kessel-esque conn smythe run.

Realistically Hall is an untouchable for Edmonton as are Draisaitl and McDavid.

Now a Klefbom + 4th deal for Hamilton would be interesting.

Flames have holes to fill too guys. Stop pretending that the Oilers are the only team that NEEDS a trade.
Why would Chiarelli send a gross overpayment to a rival? He can do that for PK or some other dman. Hamilton is all potential. This isn't Nick Lidstrom.

A friend brought up an interesting point. Hamilton might just be the type who will bolt for free agency after 4 years, so won't be around for too much of our true contending years. So maybe you do entertain trade offers. Not necessarily saying #4 is proper value, but just that maybe I'm not so against trading him as I thought.

Because Edmonton is getting an in the wool proven solution to their problem. We're getting a box of hope.

So yeah, Edmonton needs to buckle up. And it seems like Chia's selection of dmen is going to shrink over the summer unless he's willing to pay a premium now which is the number 4 pick. Because nobody is going to put the same value on their first round pick next year until they know what its likely to be.

I agree with the sentiment of 4+Hall for Hamilton+.

Edmonton has to overpay for trading within the conference plus a provincial rival.
We can throw in a 2nd

At this point who in the hell cares.

With that logic, we could sit here and say that this might be the last contract that Johnny signs in hockey because he talked about closing out his career in Philly so lets move him.
