Yup... imagine how much it would suck if Lamarellio could go on to TSN/Sportsnet and say everyday how much he would love to have Monahan on the Leafs and that they presented Calgary with a more than fair trade offer.

Knowing Bro Jake....
I doubt Pratt would speak ill of his family though.

Benning is the Feaster of the Canucks but worse. At least Jay was a smooth talker Benning is cringe worthy when he speaks.

There's nothing dumb about the rule. The Lightning have been trying to get an answer out of the Stamkos camp this weekend to whether he's going to test the market. I imagine these comments pissed then off big time. I think people may be surprised about how hard the Canucks get dealt with as you can't have teams publicly admitting they have an offer in store for players under contract with another team.
How would Flames fans feel if the Flames were in contract discussions with Gaudreau and Bruins came out publicly saying they were very interested in him? You know that would be pulling at the heart strings of the Gahdreau family and put the Flames at a disadvantage in negotiations. You simply can't have this.

I wouldn't consider the Stamkos comments tampering. I remember our own Brian Burke made similar comments about the Sedins when he was GM of Toronto and there were no repercussions. The comments about Subban deserve some sort of punishment though. You can't just go public with trade negotiations like that. Imagine if PK found out from Benning that the Canadiens were listening to offers on him...

Actually, there were repercussions (more against the comments Ron Wilson made than Burkie).

Just tired unoriginal 90s humour. Their whole brand is just so boring and overdone. It's like they're still calling each other and answering "wazzaaaaaaaaaaa!".

I actually get the sense that Jake Edwards and David Pratt are not that fond of one another. One of the reasons their show is SO bad is because everything between them sounds forced. It is a perfect cocktail of suck.

More downplay of this report from the TEAM 1040. What a surprise. Blake Price is now making the case that Stamkos' UFA value is so high as to render Benning's comments "irrelevant."
God, I hope the Canucks get nailed to the wall for this.

Especially considering their fans wanted to get a 2nd round pick from Toronto as compensation for Ron Wilson (who wasn't even the GM) when he talked about the Sedins.

Just a guess here. NHL will investigate and conclude no wrong doing. But in private say Jim be smarter than this.
TB and Montreal probably and have every reason to be steamed about Benning.

On the one hand, I agree, but on the other hand, it might make them get rid of Dim Jim which is something I think we can agree as Flames fans that we don't want to see happen.

Love the dim jim handle. I dont think this is that big of a deal though. My guess is a small undisclosed fine for the stamkos comment and the nhl just sweeps this away.

Yes, absolutely. The saving grace here will be that even with Benning gone there is still Trevor Linden in the office to mess things up. Hell, if BOTH Benning and Lindern are fired for the comedy of errors these past two years, the Canucks is still the property of the Aquellinis, who might well be the most heavy handed owners since Dollar Bill Wirtz.

Unfair comparison. Aquillini's are willing to spend as much money necessary. They just feel entitled to help pick who and when, which is the problem.

This is the definition of tampering don't see how the NHL let's this slide. What if Yzerman was still negotiating with Stamkos? You're driving up the price for Stamkos which is why it's not allowed.
I know some will say his price is already as high as it can get but where does the NHL draw the line? Tampering is allowed on superstars? Of course that's not the precedent they want so they will come down hard on Benning.

Agree this defines the very essence of tampering but let's see if the NHL shows their teeth.

They should drop the Canucks down to the 30th pick and everyone moves up a spot.
I always wondered why the Oilers never got investigated when they said they would love to sign a player "like Lucic". Isn't that pretty much the same thing?
