I think Hall is more likely. He is a productive scoring winger. Isn't that on BT's shopping list?
The other alternative is a bunch of salary going back but EDM has no room.

I like the getting rid of Bouma part.

Especially if they get into the habit of trading early picks.

If EDM is going to overpay for PK, then find out whether they would do same for Gio or Dougie. I doubt the 4th on its own is enough if Bergevin was asking for #4 and Drai for PK. If EDM is considering that deal, BT would be nuts not to try and get a similar deal.
But more importantly these rumors suggest he is willing to consider a serious re-architecting of the team. That's very interesting to me. I think you have to go back to Cliff to find a Calgary GM with that kind of confidence.
|
Even then I don't do it. Draisaitl had a pretty significant drop in play the 2nd half of last season and had a terrible rookie season. With #4, the chances of getting a Dougie-quality player, at that selection, within the next 5 years are low. If Edmonton wants BT to solve their most pressing need they've had for the last half decade, it needs to be more than Drai + 4. If Hall was a RW, then probably Hall + 4.

Well you weren't wrong, that is a crazy proposal for sure.
So basically you want to get rid of Hamilton, Bouma, a 'top' forward prospect, a 'top' d prospect, and 3 picks. In return you get Yakupov, Jones and a pick?
Ouch.
Edit: If you want to get crazy why wouldn't you cut out the Edmonton part and just go straight to CBJ with Hamilton, Bouma, 6OA, 35OA, and 2 prospects for 3OA and Jones? Throw in a cap dump and you're probably golden.

I literally have no interest in Yak, who's horrible and frankly as far as hockey players go, dumb on the ice.
If I'm trading exactly what the Oilers need for a sparkly box like the 4th I want a huge over payment, and that's Draisatl.
I especially don't want Hall at 6 million bucks infecting my dressing room and admitting that he's not going to put in the effort in an attempt to avoid injuries.
We've got a nice little culture starting up here, why take the chance with Mr Pouty.

The bottom line for Edmonton, is that Chia has to deliver a winning product this year, a lot of Edmonton fans have held onto their tickets just to get into the new building. If the Oilers are crap again and the fans are paying premium tickets and food pricing etc, you might see a movement similar to the end of the Pocklington days when they were lucky to get 10,000 fans in the seats.
So the closer to the season we get without Chia getting his prized defenseman, the more he's going to feel pressure from the fans and from Katz. And the more that other GM's are going to want to take advantage.
What Chia's looking for doesn't grow on trees, and teams that have them are going to want major overpayments to the point of a near fleece to give them up.
We saw Chia panic last year when the Flames picked up Hamilton and his reaction was to get murdered in the Reinhart deal.
If the Oilers aren't in a playoff spot in the next two seasons, Chia is gone, its that simple.

Yeah Oulers could be cut out. I would love to walk away with Puljujarvi and Jones which is crazy highly unlikely.

Agree. Almost seems as if he's feeling the pressure to have a comment on *every* situation, even if he has no real info to share as in the case of Bishop and Calgary.

I'll be real pissed if Hamilton is traded, unless its for overpayment, and that Oilers proposal of 4th overall is not overpayment. Unless Oilers add, it better be a no from Treliving.

Count me out on Eberle. I don't think he competes, and I think Hrudey killed his trade value last year by exposing his general disinterest in competing.
I'd be in on RNH though. I think he's a solid performer if kept. And if you do trade for him, I think you could flip him relatively easily to plug another gap. Decent asset either way imo.

I would have to think long and hard if it was something like 4th plus Hall for 6th plus Hamilton.

So, why isn't Edmonton in on a guy like Kris Russell? Sounds like the Stars aren't eager to keep him around...

If Hamilton gets traded it better be to get into the top 3. That being said I don't want to trade him at all. He could be a #1 a couple years down the road.

A deal like that is actually something worth pondering (regardless of our opinions of Hall as an Oiler, he is still a very good player). I see Hall and Hamilton close to the same value.

Trade for Subban and sign Russell to a long term $5M+ per year contract. Defense would be marginally better but cap hell would be hilarious.
