So the argument is we end up with Juolevi and Tkachuk ? I'll take Hamilton and Nylander thanks.

Yeah, I'm with you. If a move like this was the only way to fit Bishop it'd be a different story, but it's not really the case

I'm not sure I like the idea of losing Hamilton. We have an amazing top 3, and losing Hamilton leaves a pretty big hole in our defensive depth. If somehow trading Hamilton got us Laine, I might be ok with that. But otherwise I think Hamilton has too much upside to trade. He just turned 23 and is 6'5 and set career highs with limited PP time.

I wasn't super impressed with 2015 Hamilton.
I was quite impressed with 2016 Hamilton, however. So I'd say there's some reason.

Hamilton is the perfect age for this group. I don;t want to wait another 4-5 years for a defenseman to develop into what he is when we already have him now.

This could very well be a ploy to mess with Columbus. If Columbus passes on Puljujarvi, then Calgary could grab him with the 4th OV. Now Columbus is nervous about getting nothing extra in picks to move down to 6th. They are probably bluffing that they will take Brown? at 3 now. Giving Edmonton Puljujarvi. If so, nice move BT, "ok then, I will get the 4th OV lol

I really don't like this at all. If we're going to trade Hamilton to anyone (which makes no sense) let alone our biggest rival they need to mass overpay.
4th OA doesn't cut it for me, hopefully Treliving has a plan to get into the top 3.

Dealing Giordano likely makes more sense than Hamilton.

Hamilton for 4 for PLD or Tkachuk and then drafting a d-man at 6 basically causes Treliving to lose all the confidence I've gained in him.
It's a backwards move.

And I think trading for the 4th is a step to get you the 3rd. I don't think they'd be trading a big fish like Hamilton to draft 4th. They'd use that to get one of the big three.

This is typical I want "the newest toy" mentality...Hamilton is proven, draft picks can bust

I really hope we don't trade Hamilton. It would suck to have to empathize with bruin fans, even if our return is much better.

Agreed but you have to wonder about the leadership void that would leave in the dressing room. Plus I would want more than just the 4th pick from the Oilers for Giordano given how much of a difference he would make to the Oilers success as IMO the Oilers getting Giordano could be that game changing move they have long needed.

If Hamilton is traded for the 4th pick here are my thoughts.
1. Flames want the cap space to sign a premiere goalie
2. The "uppity loner" rumblings out of Boston maybe we're true?
Otherwise it doesn't make any sense to trade a 23 year old, 6'6, smooth skating, right shot D

The only reason Hamilton could be in play is if the team/player realized that he just isn't a good fit for this team for some reason or another (ie a Chris Drury type situation).
Because otherwise it just doesn't make sense.

The only thing I can think of regarding moving Dougie for a pick would be that Flames management has identified they have too much money tied up in the back end and it's created an imbalance in the roster.
Getting a Juolevi on an entry-level deal, if you think he can step in almost right away, would be a quick fix to that, and by the time he comes off his entry level deal who knows what has happened with Gio at that point.

Treliving to Burke: I'm thinking of trading Dougie Hamilton to Edmonton for the 4th over all pick.
(hopefully) Burke to Treliving:

If they used it as a way to get to #3, now that's a completely different story
