True. At least WRP are the opposition.

But as I mentioned above, both governing and opposition party were on the remain side. They have 84% of the seats and the 65% of the vote in the last election. UKIP has 1 seat!

This referendum results goes against all the political science and economists books.

At this point, I'm just hoping that the position I was just hired to fill, but that doesn't start until September, doesn't end up one of the casualties of the global recession that this is sure to cause.

I studied law in the UK a few years back, with two of the required courses being European Law and Constitutional Law. The fundamental question in both was one of Parliamentary Sovereignty. The UK is built on the fact that parliament is the ultimate authority. Being in the EU has always gone against that philosophy, as both economically and politically they lose some level of control.

Beyond the issues of race, immigration, etc I think it is hard for many in that country to overcome what has been fundamentally ingrained in their culture.

As an outsider I am still worried of what leaving the EU will do both internally and externally.

So aircraft works and cars are major British exports, but they're not exporting British cars and Airbus is the aircraft parts. Do they bother staying?

GlaxoSmithKline would stay for sure.

Does HSBC? Do the other global banks?

I'm betting a lot do for a little while, but eventually lots will leave. This is such a potential disaster for the UK. It's insane.

So NI gets dragged out of the EU along with Scotland and Wales.
Dumb Questions.
So if NI votes to unify with Ireland , are they back in? What about Scotland? Would they have to go through the whole joining process?

Could you imagine the horror?

I mean US presidents get elected by dumb people all the time, but they're all really the same so an average person's life doesn't change too much. This? You wake up and the dummies have taken over, your currency has dropped 10% and the people that pushed for this really have no plan.

Lol, Jesus.

Well, people elected them to be their representatives and to use their judgement to make the right decision.

This is one of the few times where the people made an extremely stupid decision that will destroy the continent and the representatives have the power to override that stupidity.

Let them riot.

Can't see that happening. Cameron was boasting this week that even if he lost by 1 vote he would accept the result.

He's lost by more than 1 million votes!

Well if nothing else, at least today I learned that the US isn't the only country with rural areas chock full of old white uneducated angry racists.

They should let the people experience the fallout for a month, and then vote again.

Yes exactly. Let them riot. They'll forget about it all in a few months anyways. Leaving the European Union would just be an absolute disaster for their country.

If the people really want to exit the EU, they'll elect a brexit friendly Parliament during the next election.

There is two years for this process to work itself out. If the economy goes down the tubes in the next little while, that shock may turn opinion around.
