That's asking a lot from a goalie playing on the Leafs. Reimer should have been the Leafs number one but they always gave Bernier a chance to make a run for the top spot.
The one lockout half-season Reimer basically dragged the Leafs to the playoffs and then dragged them to Game 7. Then he let in a few goals because Carlyle doesn't know how to coach, then Caryle threw him under the bus.
If he was on a better team he could put up great numbers. Look at SJ.

Reimer would be a huge disappointment.
Especially because it is Burke digging back the old.

As long as we get a new goalie it doesn't really matter who it is.
Even if we had average goaltending last year we would have been in playoff contention and likely made it. We don't need an allstar we just need the position filled and the tirefire defence strategy adjusted. Then boom, back to being good.
Reimer, Bishop, Varlamov, Fleury... Whatever. Just get one.

This isn't Burke's team. It's Treliving's.

I wouldn't mind Reimer. His stats haven't been amazing, but they are not terrible. He was playing on a bad team. I do agree he is not the sexy choice!
Never the less I sign Reimer in a heartbeat if all the goalies we are looking at take the 6th overall pick to acquire! Reimer could perform, and Gillies could be the future.
We really should not panic for a goalie. We definitely do not need to overpay!
I am terrified Treliving will trade the 6th overall pick for a goalie. MAF and Bishop would be the worst choices. Good goalies. Older goalies though. 6th overall pick plays for us for ten years. Those goalies three years.

Seconded.... Reimer > Any Goalie who takes 6 overall to acquire
That pick is another young core player for a long time, not worth it for a few years of a veteran goalie in the current trade market with expansion coming up. Especially when Freddy Andersen basically just went for two 2nd rounders.

I got made fun of a bit yesterday saying the league had the Flames over a barrel when it came to acquisiton costs. Today I look to be right. I sincerely hope I am wrong tomorrow. Because if things keep going like this, Reimer's going to get a dangerously inflated contract offer from CGY or we can kiss a 2nd consecutive 1st round pick goodbye picking up another roster player. Which is a big no no for me. But you cannot walk into next season with Karri Ramo and Joni Ortio again either. I realy hope it is not a frustrating day tomorrow.

I have faith that Treliving isnt dumb enough to pay a 6th overall for any of the goalies being speculated on. But Reimer is still my last resort choice. If we end up with him I will view it as a bit of a failure.

Huh?? I dont see it this way at all. Speculation that its gonna take a 6th overall for the surplus goalies out there is a pipe dream.

Lebrun I believe said that if a first round pick was involved the trade would have already been made.

We'll see. This situation is shaping up like a giant game of chicken. Just a matter of who has a cooler head. Problem is, if the other teams flinch, they still have all their goalies and can still trade them later, Flames problem is they get stuck with nothing still and stuck negotiating from a position of weakness with FA goalies.

Yep, I'll hope he proves me wrong but I won't have any faith going into next season that the goalie situation is any better than last season.

Will you feel silly telling us all "I told you so" today, if tomorrow you're wrong?

There's only one team that has a starting job open.
If you're a free agent goalie that's wanting to start, you're more likely to take a haircut off the top of your demands, otherwise you'll be relegated to being a backup for some other team. Being a starter makes more sense financially long term.
I would be shocked to see Reimer signed for more than 4 million on UFA day if the Flames fail to get a goalie. Probably more likely in the 3.33 to 3.5 range.
If he signs as a backup somewhere he's more likely to get in the neighbourhood of 2.5 million because teams don't typically have the budget for that much for a backup.
It'll be fine.

Not at all. If I was worried about the guff I'd get from posting semi-irrational fears about the fate of my favorite sports team I wouldn't post at all.

The market doesnt change any if other teams balk though. The Flames are still their best opportunity to turn their surplus goalies and cap space into an asset.
Supply is a lot higher than demand, ball is still in the Flames court.
