Draft Pick

Assuming it's reasonable cost, id be happy with him for many reasons.
If he comes as advertised, im sure we'll gladly pay him and money comes off the books next year.
Regardless he'll give us a year of upgraded goaltending, and if hes not worth the raise, the free agent crop next year is much more appealing as well Gillies will hopefully have a year under his belt
Again, depending on the cost, id rather gamble a year on bishop than 3 on Fleury

I can't tell if this is supposed to be satirical or an earnest re-quote.

Cross that bridge when you get there. 3 solid years would be huge for this team given last year.

I also prefer Fleury, but am very encouraged to see the amount of work going into getting this decision right. I feel confident that the Flames will be much improved in goal next season.

Two things ...
Treliving gives up nothing, doubt Dreger knows a thing. Good way to sound important on a radio show.
Only way I go after Bishop is with a cheap acquisition cost to help the Bolts free up money to retain Stamkos. One 2nd round pick and a C prospect. That's it.
Reason? I don't want the guy beyond a year so why do it? Great goaltender, but injury prone, not a spring chicken and will be looking for the retirement contract. It will cripple the Flames and his age doesn't match the core.

What concerned me about Treliving's comments a short while ago was that he said he wasn't keen on trading the 6th for a goalie (Or something similar to that).
I wanted to hear: no f-ing way would I trade #6 for a goalie.
Have to admit it made me think he's thinking about Bishop too
I would NOT be happy if the 6th pick went to TB for Bishop.

Clearly "looking real hard" is part of the process.

This could also be a ploy. Give eager beaver Dreger some lousy information in hopes prices start to drop on other goalies. I don't know why, I just have a gut feeling that MAF is the guy Treliving wants.

That's only one concern...don't leave me hanging!
Unless his contract concerns you so much that it is equal to two concerns?

I still think we end up signing Reimer and having Ortio back up. Not ideal but might be all we get this year. Just my gut feeling.

I don't really want Bishop. His cost (both acquisition and eventual contract) are going to be too high for what he is. He's a good goalie, but not worth the difference in cost for someone else IMO.

Posturing..just like TO not saying they wont trade 1st overall. Not gonna happen but leaves the door open for offers.

He's the best goaltender that may be available but there are factors including the cost to acquire him for one season and the cost to sign him. You can bet his agent will be looking for a contract that pays him handsomely past his mid-30's. Would essentially make Gillies outlook no better than a backup or 1B for his entire entry level deal. I kind of would prefer going with a guy like Reimer for a short term and hoping the organization can finally develop a legit starting goaltender. Short term it would be a fantastic acquisition.

I took it differently.
I think he knows the game but is playing it in a less obvious, Dale Tallon fashion.
The market closed for Pittsburgh and the asking for Calgary's 1st thing was a quick insert to media circles.
Treliving waits a few days and then is asked, and instead of doing the "if anyone thinks they're getting that pick for a goalie ... " quote he plays it cool.
Same effect, but honestly makes him look unflappable.

If the team has to opt for Reimer I believe the team will also sign another goaltender to back him up for security. The only way I see Ortio back as the backup is if they blow their wad on a Bishop or MAF trade where they feel secure in their number one guy and are using a sizeable portion of their salary cap on him.
