I probably missed someone saying this already but is it that Columbus may be set at winger already regarding their prospects so it makes sense to try and get more organisational value as far as a centre and more prospects goes? It doesn't have to mean he thinks Puli sucks.

The only reason I say they can is that the have the best pick at #6 and still have our own second at #35.
Edmonton #4 - don' think it makes sense for them to move up.
Vancouver #5 - No 2nd round pick and weaker prospect group than Flames.
Arizona #7 - Don't think they spend the assets for #3 unless it gets them up to #1
Buffalo #8 - Can probably beat Flames package but also more risk that Columbus doesn't get their guy at #8
The only team I truly see being better would be if Colorado offered Duchene as part of that deal - but even then Columbus can't take on that salary and Colorado would be very unlikely to want any salary back.

keep holding out Mr. Jones... help make Flames fans dreams come true
Aaron Portzline @Aportzline
The agent for #CBJ D Seth Jones, Pat Brisson, says he and club are "continuing the talks" toward a new deal, but "nothing to report."

Not ludicrous at all. Who's the GM with the biggest network of people to talk to in Finland? Probably Kekelainen. Which GM can phone up anybody in Finland and ask them questions in their native tongue? Kekelainen. He can get Intel himself from a wide variety of Finnish contacts. Every other GM has to rely on their Finnish scout or their limited contacts in Finland.
Laughable? Common sense actually. Your Canadian/US comparisons fail because of the languages they speak and because every GM has strong contacts and networks in those countries.

Well you had the first tongue in cheek comment.
I generally don't mimic those that I disagree with as a first salvo.
I'm totally fine with ties being broken on how the current cupboards are stocked, more foolish to break ties with how the current NHL team is stocked, but I'm sure that is done as well.
But if you think asset value and BPA you just work things out down the road when a kid breaks the door down and states its his time to play. Can't go wrong with that plan ever.
Asset value is asset value.

All very fair points. I'm just jaded and convinced if the Flames move to #3, it will be too costly.
I don't effin know.. Tmrw can't come soon enough..

Calgary also appears willing, and is able, to take on a contract, whether it be Bobrovsky or Hartnell. That will be the key because that is what Columbus really needs.
That plus the fact that their pick is 6th, so not sliding too far.

The issue is: does he actually know something that no one else knows, or does he just not think as highly of the player?
In order for him to know something that others don't, implies that no other teams have guys on the ground in Finland.
It is ludicrous. He simply isn't that high on the player. Has nothing to do with being Finnish.

Oh I don't think he necessarily knows something that others don't. I think he just doesn't see Puljujarvi as being in a tier above certain players.
But if anybody did know something about Finnish prospects that other teams didn't it would be likely to be Kekelainen.

Imagine if the Flames could get Jones, move wideman and have Smid retire.

I thought we wanted BJ's to payout big doe forcing them to unload their goalie/Hartnell and their 3rd pic , not that we were going to take a run at Jones?? must be a day late and a dollar short today

I have no idea. My point is that the "reports" you're referencing is one comment from the GM who is trying to increase the value of his own asset. It's not meaningful.

Amazing in a non-cap world. A problem in this one though.
