One thing for certain. Once the NHL gets to 32 teams the playoff format needs to be changed to the top four teams in each division make the playoffs and every team has to play its way out of the division to advance to the conference playoffs.

I would still rather they went back to the old format. Teams should not make the playoffs just because they are in a certain division. The top 8 in points make the dance.

They get no picks in 2016.

They go into the lottery in 2017 with the same percentage chance of winning as the 3rd-last team in next year's standings, and can't pick lower than 6th in the first round of 2017. They'll have the 3rd pick in each subsequent round of the 2017 Draft.

Divisional playoffs develop rivalries as well better than playing a team several times in the regular season. Plus it increases the chances of sweet back-to-back rival matchups. Flames take on Oilers and Canucks in first two rounds? Leafs deal with Senators and Canadiens? That's ratings heaven there for Rogers.

I'd say look at Carolina to slide up to Quebec if they can't get their stuff sorted out.

32nd team would be Seattle...or perhaps Kansas City. It needs to be able to play in the West. Nobody in the East is going to want to slide over at this point.
