We need more generalists

When an engineer or technical person solves unemotional problems all day, their core skill is solving unemotional problems...

Then we encounter the " when your main tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail" effect.

We need people with multiple skill sets

Isn't that what we pay the professionals in government for? To gather data, analyze it, and present options to our elected representatives? It really isn't up to cabinet ministers to crunch numbers. Their job is choose the correct option to suit the political climate, the public interests, and the long-term goals of the government.

So let me get this straight.

Election - no carbon tax, no health care premium return.

Win election

Well there's a carbon tax

The government studies the crap out of it, well a carbon tax will dramatically increase unemployment, reduce spending, crush businesses and families and investment in this province.

Perfect makes some changes.

OK lets vote it in

Figures get leaked, all hell breaks loose.

Government response, those are the ollllld figures relax guy.

Where are the new figures?

Shrug, we guessed at them somewhere in the budget, I think on page 60.

No where are the actual studies of the success or failure of the changes and their effect on the economy.

Yeah we haven't done that homework yet, we hope it won't wreck the economy.

But they passed it without a new study of the effect.

These people are complete idiots, seriously Hoffman needs to resign as the deputy premiere, she's completely clueless and literally has no idea what's going on and how things work. Also our so called Minister of Climate Change needs to go Shannon Phillips has basically been hiding things or is clueless in how this is going to be executed.

On top of that we're implementing this to get market access for our pipelines and both BC and Ontario are still saying nertz to that.

I give credit to our, don't think things through hell bent for stupidity NDP government, at least their consistent in being completely incompetent.

Hopefully they bring back government issued cheese wheels, cause we're all going to need free food when this is done.

Or the elected politicians ignore the data presented and do there own thing. Carbon tax, Harpers entire federal mandate and on an on.

If politicians would just set goals and accept recommendations of the professionals working for them we would be a lot better off.

Are you sure Cece isn't sitting at his desk with his abacus, pouring over receipts next to the "Province of Alberta Checkbook"?

Stupid me, this is 2016, he probably uses a mobile app to check the province's credit balance.

http://calgaryherald.com/news/politi...on-tax-impacts

The NDP has refused for months to release any study showing the economic impacts of the new tax — things like how many provincial jobs will be lost or gained, whether GDP will go up or down, the question of oil exports thriving or diving.

Premier Rachel Notley deflected or derided dozens of opposition questions in the legislature. She and her ministers implied that even asking such vile questions denies the reality of climate change.

Officials and politicians would not confirm that an updated report was ever written. But they didn’t quite deny its existence, either.

Ministers even evoked cabinet secrecy. You’d think we were asking Vladimir Putin about doping.

Finally, Deputy Premier Sarah Hoffman conceded Friday that a report might exist, although she isn’t personally aware of it.

“I’m sure there is, I’m sure it will continue to be updated. At the end of the day those assumptions will be incorporated into the budget and the fiscal plan,” she said.

With all the testiness and secrecy, the NDP has created the strong impression that it has something to hide. This is dangerous both for the government and the whole climate change policy.

That policy happens to be essential for the province — although one isn’t supposed to believe that, apparently, while also believing that serious economic questions need to be answered

Like I said, Hoffman needs to resign, sitting there and saying that a report might exist but she basically doesn't know where it is indicates that she's lying to cover up a report that's devestating.

And Notley needs to STFU, her whole if you go complain about our incompetence you're a climate change denier shows that she's no better then Wynne with her they attacked me because I'm a woman BS.

So we can add dishonest and arrogant to incompetent and potentially corrupt.

Aren't those all requirements for membership in the NDP?

We're really only a very short step away from them actually adopting the flag in my avatar.

Hey, if the Federals want to change the national anthem to reflect the current Canada then why cant Alberta change our flag to reflect the current climate?

Although the sickle might offend Farmers adversely affected by modern legislation.

i'm getting to a point where my immediate response to any NDP supporter is "Call and election" no matter what words come out of their mouth. I can't help it.

Kenny appears to be quitting Federal politics to run provincially.

Kenny is not Prentice or Brian Jean. This is a thoughtful and intelligent person.

This is a game changer.

Unemotional problems? Engineers don't have multiple skills?

Sigh.

Remember that Prentice was to be the "real Conservative saviour" for the PC's, and we all know how that turned out. No one had a bad thing to say about him. A former minister, a business guy, by all measures very smart and thoughtful.

I' not sure how you can call Kenny a game changer in that regard. He is also a career politician. Forgive me if I don't get out my foam #1 glove and slide whistle.

Oh, he wants to merge PC and Wildrose? Oh, in that case, have fun with that. I thought he's be smart enough to go straight PC and run the Wildrose into oblivion. At least that would have stood a chance.

And Tom Flanagan? Lets hope he isn't involved. Better wheel in ol' Preston too. This is starting to look like the Federal Liberals decade of failed revival already.

I'm definitely not getting excited about Kenney at this point. I had high hopes when Prentice came on board but he blew it. I would think that Kenney or anyone else would steer clear of the mistakes and mismanagement of Prentice and the leaders before him but Politicians tend to not make wise decisions or learn from the past.
