Default NHL Awards - June 22 @ 7PM ET

Now that the playoffs are finished, the NHL Awards are next, and they will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 7PM ET at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas (SN, NBCSN). Although the awards are usually cringe-inducing and hard to watch, it's still interesting to see which players come out on top and add these awards to their resume. We should also see Gio there, as he is a nominee for the NHL Foundation Award for his community work. There should be a couple of controversial decisions as usual (Calder Trophy, Norris, etc), but it should make for good discussion.

Just a reminder of the awards that will be handed out during this day:

Hart Trophy (most valuable player to his team)

Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins
Jamie Benn, Dallas Stars
Patrick Kane, Chicago Blackhawks

Vezina Trophy (best goalie)

Ben Bishop, Tampa Bay Lightning
Braden Holtby, Washington Capitals
Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings

Norris Trophy (best defenseman)

Erik Karlsson, Ottawa Senators
Brent Burns, San Jose Sharks
Drew Doughty, Los Angeles Kings

Calder Trophy (top rookie)

Artemi Panarin, Chicago Blackhawks
Connor McDavid, Edmonton Oilers
Shayne Gostisbehere, Philadelphia Flyers

Lady Byng (gentlemanly player)

Loui Eriksson, Boston Bruins
Aleksander Barkov, Florida Panthers
Anze Kopitar, Los Angeles Kings

Selke Trophy (best defensive forward)

Ryan Kesler, Anaheim Ducks
Anze Kopitar, Los Angeles Kings
Patrice Bergeron, Boston Bruins

Jack Adams Award (best coach)

Barry Trotz, Washington Capitals
Lindy Ruff, Dallas Stars
Gerard Gallant, Florida Panthers

Masterton Trophy (perseverance)

Jaromir Jagr, Florida Panthers
Mats Zuccarello, New York Rangers
Pascal Dupuis, Pittsburgh Penguins

Ted Lindsay Award (most outstanding player, voted by players)

Patrick Kane, Chicago Blackhawks
Jamie Benn, Dallas Stars
Braden Holtby, Washington Capitals

Mark Messier Leadership Award

Alex Ovechkin, Washington Capitals
Shea Weber, Nashville Predators
John Tavares, New York Islanders

Only McDavid can't drink or gamble at the awards.

My thoughts on who will win.

I agree with all except the Calder.

I don't see how Panarin doesn't win it. He finished top ten in league scoring.

I'd agree with most of the choices, apart from Panarin winning the Calder as well. I also think Doughty has a good chance to win the Norris, just based on his season's work.

Yeah. I was struggling with who I think should win and who I think will win.

I agree that Panarin and Doughty should win their respective awards. McDavid should be nowhere close to the Calder, and if he is, I would like last years Norris vote re-done so that Giordano can rightfully win it.

Burns vs Doughty is a bit closer to me. Burns was a beast this year. Karlsson, I'm getting pretty sick of the points/eastern bias that happens with defensemen.

My picks, not who I think actually will win.

So after the flames trade for Bishop tonight, if he wins does he thank Calgary?

You could line up along the red carpet tomorrow to guarantee seeing him (can't imagine you'd need a ticket for that, though you would have to probably be there early in the morning to be in front). Or, I think it said that even though the Awards are at the Hard Rock, Encore is the 'headquarters' and I'd bet you players are all getting free rooms to stay there, so you could hang around that hotel and keep your eyes open.

I think Doughty wins in an unexpected landslide. Media seem to be wanting to make a stand against pure point totals.

Thank christ it wasn't McJesus. Deserved for Panarin. Wether he should be termed as a rookie or not is another debate, but as he fits in under the rules, he deserved that award.

I thought for sure the league would find a way to give McJesus the Calder because he's McJesus.
