I always thought Andersson's best attribute was being big. He stopped a lot of pucks that hit him, and less than he should have that didn't.
Happy enough BT didn't do this deal.

Reimer wants to be a number one. Unless he doesn't mind going to Las Vegas, zero chance he signs in Anaheim IMO.

$5m on the nose AAV for Andersen. Not bad. Would Reimer ask for the same in free agency?

Beggars are not choosers.
Good for Flames, if interested.

It's always interesting how players can sign big contracts the same day they are traded. Yet players like Gaudreau take several months to get a contract.

Don't have the time to read through the entire thread so this may have been suggested, but would Bernier be worth a gamble? Salary is a little high for what he was bringing to the table, but he looked pretty promising not that long ago and might just need a change of scenery.
Acquisition cost shouldn't be too high.

Leafs paid a premium for an average starting goaltender.
With the price Calgary would have had to pay, plus the bloated contract Andersen just received I am glad we didn't end up with Andersen.

Of goalies that played 60 or more games over the past 2 seasons he ranks 22nd in overall Save Percentage with a .916 save percentage. IMO that is pretty average, especially when you consider he played on a pretty strong defensive team.
The Leafs paid a fair price IMO - really the 2 2nds is not terrible. Not a great deal but not terrible. Sounds like the Flames would have had to pay more though, especially with what some of the Calgary media was rumoring in regards to the cost for Andersen, and that is more what I was concerned about.

This part I can totally understand. Flames were in a much more difficult position from a trade partner perspective.

Ok. Only one year left for Bernier.
That makes it different.
Bernier is the same as Flames had last year, imo. I want better

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
A few teams are surprised at the money Andersen got ($5 M per year) but if he's what the Leafs think he is, should be reasonable in long run
Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Similar conversation with one gm who had Andersen behind Bishop and Fleury as top 3 potentially available tenders.

I can't say I'm too disappointed in the Flames not getting Andersen. But I don't want Reimer either.

I brought this trade idea up about a month ago.
- Trade Raymond (1 Million retained) for Bernier.
- Sign a good UFA back-up (Enroth?) for 1 year @ 1.5 mil
We get 2 very capable goalies for a total cost of 3.5Million and use the money saved to get Hartnell and the 3rd overall from Columbus
