If only Wales had held on at the end of the England game they'd have already won the group and England would be on its way out of the tournament. Fine line indeed....

That's absolutely the group to get into in 2018. Although, getting murdered by Russian fans after beating Russia in Russia would suck.

England had 24 shot attempts, only 5 were on target. That's only 3 more on target shots than Slovakia.

The day Roy Hodgson retires will be a good day for football.

well, that sucked. Played well, but if you can't score a goal ...

if Austria win on Wednesday and Portugal don't, then it's England-Austria in the round of 16. Not sure I could take that

Good news for non-England fans: Odds are if he wins one more game he's guaranteed back for at least 2 more years. So tough spot if you're an England fan, on the one hand you wanna win, on the other you're going nowhere with Hodgson running things. Almost worth it to crash out in the round of 16 if it means the end for Roy. Dilemma...

That is also the very last R16 game on Monday night. England have a long break.

I don't care how England does. I just hate watching Hodgsons teams play. Boring as hell.

Vardy had the least amount of touches on the whole team besides Hart

He cant start next game, hes a sub when we need a goal

im assuming Rooney/Alli/Walker/Rose were all rested

that one long ball to him was really good, why didn't they do that more?

because the Slovakia CBs were for the most part sitting on the edge of their 18 yard box

cant play over the top against teams that sit back to soak up pressure and not allow anything behind

Which begs the question, why would you bring him on then if you need a goal given that is what he will be up against?

Been a celebratory mood all day since watching Wales thrash Russia to win group B. I realize there are likely several English supporters here but Wales has never come out of a group in an International tourney so it's kind of a big deal. Bale was top level against Russia had them backing in on every run.
Congrats to Wales and England making it to the round of 16.

Congrats to Wales, I don't give a bolloxs about England, accepted long ago that they will never win a thing in my lifetime, unless FIFA starts handing out participation medals.

It's game day in Marseille baby! Apparently 30,000 Poland fans are meeting that harbour here and heading down together. We watched the games at the harbour last night and it was a lot of fun. Lots of Poland fans chanting and singing. No drama but didnt really see any Ukraine fans so don't know if thats saying anything.

Unfortunately the Croatia blowhard contingent that is dead set on getting Croatia banned from the Euro has vowed that they would disrupt the match again today.

Fortunately, this is one thing that has really united the country. Left and right leaning media and politicians are all banding together and unanimously condemning these low lives. Police have taken the threat seriously as has HNS, and so have the French authorities. The Croatian FA has put out a statement in conjunction with the players that they feel galvanized by the tremendous support of the regular fans, and that they should not retaliate against hooligans if they come across any. Report it to the authorities. The statement also says to show up at least 3 hours prior to kick off because of new and more stringent security checks in place. I sincerely hope that the hooligans will be stopped, and by what I've read so far, it sounds like they will be stopped.

At some point, the finger needs to be pointed at the organizer too. 5 or 6 matches so far with crowd disturbances.

I am actually surprised to see how united the country has become in the face of these sport-terrorists.

These tournaments are going to have to start going with the moat approach to keep fans away. Why can't they just get drunk and have a good time?
