Looking at a child seat to put behind me. We have a chariot already.
Would this be a good choice or should I look at Bell or some other make as well?

I felt some pain in my right knee on my ride yesterday, so I stopped after about 80 kms. For the rest of the day, and this morning, I can barely move it. I went to the doctor and got a cortisone shot and some pills. I feel like a real athlete now, or an old guy. Maybe a real old guy. My Penticton granfondo is in 3 weeks, and I need this to heal quickly. There's no way I could ride for 5 minutes today, unless there was some serious money on the line.

You sure your saddle height is correct? Whenever I had knee pain I could always correct it by adjusting the saddle a bit.

Find a Physio who specializes in biking (if they exist). If not try a running injury physio as they do a lot of work around the knees. That would be your best bet for getting back into riding shape for your race.

I had knee pain like that from cycling and soccer - turned out after physios and knee clinic to be nothing but poor stretching. Got a foam roller and stretched the #### out of my hammies and IT bands - back to normal in no time.

Not sure if this will work for but I sure hope it does!

When I do lots of miles my left knee gets sore. Essentially my left quad gets super tight, and pulls on the knee cap. I get some ART, and I'm good to go. Painful, but once the muscle releases, I'm like new again.

Thanks for the suggestions. I believe my saddle is the right height, as this is the first time I've had this happen. I have booked some physio appointments and will be more dilligent with my foam roller over the next few weeks. I'll give it some rest too. Unfortunately my stats will fall on the CP strava club. This will hurt the most.

Make sure your shoe cleat is properly positioned too. Just being a little crooked can reek havoc on the knees.

So I'm gonna try to bike to work a bit this summer but haven't done it before. Any tips on finding bike racks or stalls to lock it up? I know my building has a few outside (telus tower) but it seems like its pretty limited. Are racks outside the major buildings downtown pretty much open for anyone to use?

I've also noticed quite a few of them have locks left on them and no bike. What's with that? Stolen bike? People trying to reserve a rack?

Lots of stolen bikes. Depends what you are riding. If it is the nicest no the rack, I would not leave it. If you have to lock it outside, use a good quality U lock, and never leave it over night. I'd recommend looking at the James Short Parkade or other city parkade for an indoor spot. They cost a bit of money, but worth it unless you just have a beater. Some of the individual racks are for couriers(they will be labelled), but the group racks should be fine for anyone.
some advice here:
http://www.bikecalgary.org/theft
endless list of stolen bikes...

so take it seriously.

There's a decent amount of racks downtown (and yes, open to anyone, free of charge!) but most workplaces will have a bike room or somewhere to store your bike inside.

I've seen the racks with locks and I'm not sure what that's about. My guess is bike messengers. If the bike was stolen the lock would most likely be cut.

Either way, get a good lock if you're going to be locking anywhere downtown. Having your bike stolen sucks.

Oh, the racks with locks on them are probably daily commuters who just leave the lock. No point in carting it back and forth every day. It's locked and secure!

I found out from a co-worker that my building has a bike room in the parkade that can be used for a reasonable fee. Sounds like the obvious way to go.

Yeah, I'd never leave a bike outside downtown unless I was sitting right beside it. They even steal the less expensive ones.

LOL, I'm waiting at a light on the 12 Ave cycletrack. Some guy hops up on the sidewalk next to the road and proceeds to cross against the light. There are two cops on mtn bikes sitting at the intersection waiting for him. The one cop just looks at the guy and shrugs his shoulders. "What do you think you're doing??" I got a good laugh.

I see cyclists on the road who goes thru reds often, not on the side walk but on the road. Good to hear cops are watching for infractions.

They didn't have to work too hard for that one, he rode basically right into them.
