Which of our prospects is the next most likely addition to our main core?

On that list, I think this years first is the only chance at a real Core piece that you would want to keep with the team for the next 10 years. Other guys at some point could step in and play important roles, but I don't see any of them as untouchable, we'll never win if we trade that guy types. Jon Gilles in time would be the other guy who could emerge as what I would call a core type piece.

I think you really need to define what you mean by core...a guy could be with the Flames for he next 10 years because he prices himself to a point where they keep him around, and he might even be an important part of the community. But his on ice play is something that could be replaced easily enough.

Look at Chicago...Bradon Saad and Andrew Ladd wouldn't be considered core pieces. Kane, Toews, Keith, Seabrooke, Hjalmarsson, and Hossa would be the guys who were around for all 3 cups, and Corey Crawford I think factors in having been there for the last two.

Not seeing that type of player in the original list provided outside of this years top pick.

Daniel Pribyl has me intreged and can't wait to see what he can do but I think Shinkaruk will make the team from camp and I hope we resign Derek Grant .

I also think that Wotherspoon is one of the most likely prospects to make the team. That said I know how some people use the word core and I'm not sure he'll ever be a core player.

If we trade up then I think that player is the next core player

Shinkaruk is close to stepping into the NHL in a scoring line role. As for a main core type player? Gillies is the only one I think who has a shot at being in that conversation. Of our current batch of prospects anyway, not counting some unnamed kid we may or may not pick.

Hathaway is the next prospect to make the team . Gillies is the next significant prospect to be a core piece for the future

Whomever we pick at 6th and Gillies are the only players that will/should have core player upside. Guys like Jankowski, Shinkaruk, Mangiapane, Andersson and Kylington are depth type players, like Backlund. Colborne or Wideman, not players you build around.

Could have said that about Brodie at one time. Jankowski, Shinkaruk, Mangiapane, Andersson and Kylington could yet surprise.

Odds are it will be the first round pick this friday or whatever it is traded for. If not I hope it's Kylington, but if I had to bet I would say Andersson.

Contrary to this, Kylington and Andersson both definitely have core player upside. I agree with the others though.

Andersson for me. He blew me away last training camp and I think he will end up a top 4 D within 3 or 4 seasons.

Wideman has played more than 750 games and has 369 points in his NHL career.
Would that Andersson be anywhere close to nothing special, like Wideman.

If everything goes well for Andersson sure he could be like Wideman. Wideman is a fine player, a 4th defenseman at his peak, PP specialist, but not really all that trust worthy 5 on 5, or defensively. A depth player, not a core player.

I really like this guy. I think he becomes the Ferland element of our core moving forward. To almost quote the great Rob Zombie, I think he's more Ferland than Ferland.

I think this season is make or break for Ferland. Hartley is gone, so this year we see what we really have in Ferland.

I think the 2016 6th, Andersson and Kylington have the best shot of making the big club though.
