If I was going to a hockey game with my son, and my team wasn't playing, I'd be inclined to cheer for his team along with him.
As long as it wasn't the Oilers. Then I'd put him up for adoption.

Thats the problem you'll only find in Canada: Making sure you keep your Team alliances to yourself so you dont hurt your standing with voters.

No, that's just having a stupid child. If the kid was embarrassed to be wearing it but for some strange reason he was proud to wear that blue and white rag.
I could understand Harper being a Leafs fan since he was born and raised in Toronto but his son? Wasn't he born in Calgary and now living in Ottawa?
I wonder if the kid was dropped on his head at some point or Mrs. Harper had a couple wobbly pops while she was pregnant with him.

I was living in Toronto when Harper became leader of the Reform (Alliance?) Party, and he did a media swing through Toronto where he kept emphasizing his roots in the city and how it was good to be "home" again. I think he had a fundraiser run by some friends in Etobicoke.

I think that politicians just cheer for the home team regardless of what team they really like. If the game was in Ottawa, he would have been cheering for the Sens.

and further, on that play, he could have just as easily been cheering for the Ottawa goalie, as it looked like a stop on the penalty shot - then trickled in, meanwhile the ref was saying "no goal"
And I agree, if my team wasn't playing I would cheer for any team with him (aside from the Oil and Nucks)

older people have allegiances to teams other than the Flames and Oilers, even when they live(d) here, some people need to get over that. He cheers for the Leafs because it's what he grew up doing. Who cares?

He's a politician,
What do you expect...
I guarantee you that if some canadian team amkes it to the Stanley cup finals this season he will be there proudly sporting the Flavour of the day jersey saying he has always been a fan....
Typical...........

Yup, that's really the point of my post. Its for fun, and what is even more funny, is that it is (or at least was) one of the 5 or so top headlines that ctv.ca had on its webpage....

I am sure he was a "guest" of the Leafs. The bias for the night was probably with Toronto, nevermind growing up likely a Leafs fan.
Also, CBC, decided not to show him after Senators goals, maybe he was cheering too.
Or maybe booing...he won't be happy until all Senators are Triple E, doesn't he?
No skin off my nose, to be honest. He is a politician, and good on him for sitting in actual seats, not tucked away in a private box.
