I love how the carbon tax is supposed to give us the social justification for allowing pipelines to be built. Please can we just scrap all that pipeline noise and not do this horribly stupid thing that will cost us more than any pipeline could recoup?
This is the second time Notley hasn't listened to her own government's advisors...same thing with minimum wage leaked documents a couple months ago. I think the next logical NDP step is to just get rid of the rest of the people with brains in her government so they don't keep bugging her with reality.
Jason Kenney? Yuck. How exactly does he appeal to socially progressive voters?
Smart. Educated. Well-read and well-spoken. Common sense. Reasonable. Mindful of taxpayers. With proven political experience handling serious issues. Having no questionable baggage. All the good stuff... Perhaps, you should state your definition of "socially progressive", first.

Kenney's had a lot of "greatest hits" over his career. One of my personal favourites was when his own website tried to start a petition to thank him for reducing refugee benefits.
So, you don't like him. I got that. But you generalized about him not being liked by socially progressive voters; thus, suggesting that he would appeal to ... socially regressive (?) voters, I guess. I am just curious to know your definition of socially progressive. I am sure we will disagree on anything political, anyway. Just want to know the reference point.

He's a Reform holdover who has generally erred on the side of social conservatism, especially when it comes to LGBTQ rights.
You keep posting why you don't like him. I don't really care, whatever. But I am genuinely interested in your definition of 'socially progressive". Point form summary would do.

So he'll at least be even with Notley in that regard, but at least he won't be incompetent and corrupt at this point, like Notley
What measure of competence would he bring to the job though? I thought Prentice was incredibly competent and maybe the best minister in the Harper government. I figured we were going to see a decimation of the opposition here in Alberta under him, and look how right I was! That's almost entirely attributed to his ego and arrogance though, so I think Kenney faces that same issue and likely moreso as he's arrogant with nothing to be pompous and arrogant about.

Many, if not majority of voters ignore common sense, logic, reason and vote based on completely irrelevant criteria - leader's appearance, allegiance to a specific party, disappointment with economic situation, disappointment over a specific event/scandal etc. Yes, Prentice was by far the best candidate; but voters were too upset about Redford's Calgary penthouse and private airplane faux-pas. This is, unfortunately, a political reality, which has nothing to do with candidate's merits one way or another.

Trust me Slava when I say this, I even knew Prentice was going to fail, I think deep down that everyone that worked on Prentice's campaign knew he was going to fail.
Even the PC people pounding the streets knew that the gig was up. Prentice came in and acted like this was a sure thing, did little to motivate the troops and candidates to fight in this election.
I doubt Kenney is going into this election with anywhere near the mindset that Prentice had if he chooses to go provincial.
The NDP had a pretty big advantage in the last election if you think about it. Prentice doing little but saying, look I'm a PC and we've ruled for 30 years, year we're corrupt, we put a monster like Redford in charge but trust us and while your at it I'll sell you this shiny new looking pinto for $1000.00. you had a Wildrose party that had imploded, and you had a NDP party that could basically glide through and lie in their campaigns and run a constant stream of Bullspit (oh no, we're not going to talk about a carbon tax at all).
The next election is going to be hard for them, especially if this carbon tax is as destructive as people believe its going to be and newsflash, its not going to make Quebec and Ontario and BC open their arms to pipelines, we're seeing that already. The only way its going to happen is if we get on our knees to those provinces and open our wallets and our mouths so to speak.
Just wait, we're going to have a economy that is wrecked, another bunch of people out of work, and then Notley is going to "reform" the labor codes to make it easy for her bestest buddies in the whole world in the labor unions to control negotiations for new contracts.

I tend to think that the backlash by Alberta's voters against he NDP in the next election if they keep driving the busses over the cliff will make the PC fall look like nothing.
