I'm not saying the Cards are going to win, but as a homer fan I assume they will, but didn't every "expert" pretty much say they were going to get rolled by the Padres.

People continue to walk Howard who hit .240 with RISP and pitch to Pujols who was .375 with RISP.
Redhot: 2-0 Cards on a Pujols homerun.
|
No, why anyone pitches to him is beyond belief to me. I'd walk him every time.

The thing with the Pujols HR, he popped on back of Piazza, I believe the pitch before the homerun, and Piazza totally missed played. Now it wasn't an easy play but in the playoffs the catcher has to make a play like that.

It was a trciky play with the waal, net and sun. I would say that a catcher like Molina who hits .200 has to make that play but Piazza, who even at his age is still the best hitter on the Padres, probably gets a pass.

You don't get passes at that level, no way.
That's a 100% catchable ball.

Yeah, in the playoffs you can't be giving away extra outs. Especially to a hitter like Pujols. Than again with the way the rest of that Cards lineup is hitting....why are they pitching to Pujols. Make the rest of that team beat you.

Then you don't get .285-.300 hitting and the only legit RBI threat on the team.
If you take Piazza out of the line-up you make an already weak Padres offense basically inept. Piazza is not the guy that he used ot be but he still is the best hitter on that team and catcher probaly is the best if not only spot to play him.

Anyone know the reason why the MLB first round is only a best of 5 games series?

We're talking about a pop-fly here...not some miraculous diving play. A routine pop-fly. He over-ran it.
A veteren like that should be embarrased he missed it. You don't play baseball your whole life and not learn how to catch those. .300 batting average or not, its inexcusable.

Actually Padres backup catcher Josh Bard put up pretty good numbers this year. Hitting 333 in 250 at bats with 9 home runs and 40 RBI. This year he hit better than Piazza did. But Piazza is an experienced guy who's been in the post season before. I don't think you sit a guy because of one error. But if he was to have another bad game than it's a substitution they should look at making.

I think that it was a harder catch than a routine pop-up and yes he should have caught it.
I'm just saying that the Padres and even their fans are going to be more willing to forgive the miss due to what Piazza can do at the plate.

Piazza also said after the game that the ball hit the netting on the way down. Not sure if this was the case or not.
Regardless his pitcher needs to pick him up in that case and not leave one out there for Puljos to crush.

Dodgers just ran into 2 outs at homeplate on the same play! Never seen anything like that before.

They said it was the first time in happened in MLB history. But do I not recall on the play that ended Buck Martinez's career that he got the first runner out the piled into him and managed to get the 2nd runner as well?

That Yankee's lineup is just too tough. Even if you get through the first few inning's your going to have to work your ass off for it and your pitch count is through the roof.
A lot of people have been saying the best lineup in baseball history. thoughts?

DET-NYY Game 2
Verlander has thrown a lot of pitches, and man oh man does he throw hard, fastball was hitting 101 mph
Damon hit a 3 run shot into the upper deck in right field, thats all the offense so far by the Yanks
Detroit is really scrappy, they will not give up, went down 3-1 after the Damon homerun, and just took the lead 4-3 in the 7th
The shadows at Yankee stadium are starting to become a factor, the left side of the defence is going to really struggle to pick up the ball
GO TIGERS!

Happened in the '80s during a Yanks/BoSox game , Carlton Fisk tagged out 2 Yankees at home on the same play
