Gulutzan
Wants to defend fast
Connect possession in all three zones
Want to get the puck back fast, get it out of your zone
Wants to see how quickly the Flames can transition from offense to defense
Wants to utilize the strength of the D
Emphasizes 'staying connected'
There will be a style change.

So no stretch pass, but won't that also slow down transition?

Don't spend time in our own zone.

I loved his response for being a "possession" team. I'm already feeling a lot better about the coaching change and the new hire.

Treliving and Gulutzan both love connections.
Perhaps they should work on the Saddledome's terrible wifi.

Likely more emphasis on skating with the puck and playing in close enough support to connect multiple short passes

"Process" is the new "intellectual honesty".
I have no reason to hate this hire and like all coaching hires, I will take a wait and see approach. But the clock really starts going for BT now. Keeping Hartley around bought him some extra tinkering time, but now that he officially hired "his guy", the team needs to show a significant upward trajectory.

Thank god - no more 3 forwards waiting for a stretch pass with the d-men in our own end.
5 - man units - watch the Penguins this year to see the perfect example of how that works when the players buy in.

Agreed. It'll be interesting to see how well this is implemented.

Treliving essentially says Coach Gully hired for the Johnny's and Mony's of the Flames franchise!

Refuses to use adverbs
These are all correctable behaviours though so I'm on board...for now.
Ooh he said plethora! Never mind, 100% back on board!

Gulutzan
Hired in Dallas, he was a young guy, only 39 - great experience there
Called Dallas 'a trial by fire'
Knows he did well there, has a list of things he would change
Dallas taught him how to deal with diff. types of players: Ray Whitney, Jagr, Benn
Vancouver opened the door to a 'plethora of coaches' - Sullivan, Torts
Likens coaching to being an engineer coming out of university.
